How important is it to have still warm urine for a ketone test? What if I find it within a couple hours?

    From the Merck Manual:

"Urine may be collected by cystocentesis, urethral catheterization, or voiding and should be evaluated within 30 min. If this is not possible, then it may be refrigerated for up to 24 hr; however, this may alter results of some tests, such as pH, protein, and sediment examination (crystals, casts, and cells)."

Replace the regular litter with acquarium gravel.

Then wait until she uses the box, push the gravel to one side, tip, and dip.

guess I'll have to try that one again, she held out for about 18 hours last time until I gave in and let her out in the house. Then she peed like a racehorse in the one corner of the other box that didn't have plastic in it. And she knows I'm watching her....
