? Hairball Remedies for Diabetic Cats

Evening all!
While I think I've dealt with hairballs for years (especially from my neurotic, OCD civvie), they were never something I had actually gave much if any thought. Now that Lou has diabetes, I find myself more aware of them (reading about them and their possible consequences on here, seeing Lou throw one up, etc.). It makes me wonder if it would be a good idea for both cats to have a hairball remedy, but obviously I need something that is safe for Lou.

I found an old thread at http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/hairballs.16605/ that recommended Natural Hairball Aid by NaturVet, but it's from 2010. I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask if this is still a favorite for anyone on here or if a newer, better option has come available.

What is your favorite hairball remedy?

My vet recommended plain Vasoline (petroleum jelly), so I use that as needed.

 

I have used CatLax and it works but there are more natural alternatives. There was a thread a short while ago where someone mentioned a good natural supplement but I forgot what it was. Hopefully someone here will remember?

 

Here's something I keep noted for hairball questions
Once a day, smear a 1/4 teaspoon of Vaseline or Petroleum jelly on the front paw and see if they lick it away .

Another alternative is to increase fiber but with sugar kitties the best option for that is pumpkin (not raw pumpkin). You can use 100% canned pumpkin without additives, fillers, spices, or sugar. Add about 1/2 teaspoon for adult cats to each meal, total of 1 tablespoon daily. Don't want to give a lot because it is a natural laxative so you will want to monitor stool firmness. Yes, poop duty
