    Hello!
I'm S. My cat is Boo. He's ~10 years. He was officially diagnosed a month or two ago with diabetes. Although I've suspected something was up for much longer, but I didn't have the means to check until recently. I did have a pet (a dog) prior to Boo who passed away due to diabetes. I was very unschooled in the condition. I've been trying to learn better now, but sometimes I fear that my recent ignorance may have led to missteps that will doom Boo to the same fate. But, in the meantime, I think I've made some good choices in his health.

Hello S welcome to you and Boo! I think we all started with a certain amount of ignorance on the subject, but you've come to the right place to learn all about how to help Boo. Come to the main Health forum with any questions you have. Let us know what you're feeding, what kind and how much insulin you're giving, if you home test (highly recommended!), and if Boo has any other health conditions.

Thanks so much! I've already been there to get some help on his new raw food diet. :)

    Welcome S & Boo! :bighug:
If you could put some of the answers to the questions Sharon asked in your Signature it will help us when you make other posts and help those of us with bad memories : http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/editing-your-signature-profile-and-preferences.130340/

This is the Spreadsheet template most of us who home test use. It helps us give advice, should you want other opinions ;). Just need a google e-mail address and if you need help setting it up, just ask! http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/fdmb-spreadsheet-instructions.130337/

I know it's already a lot to take in but I like to give this to new members, better to be prepared and I hope you never need it: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/how-to-treat-hypos-they-can-kill-print-this-out.15887/

There is some great information on this site about making your own cat food: http://catinfo.org/making-cat-food/
    Ask any questions :cat:

    Hi S.
Welcome to the group! The members here are very helpful and cat caring folks. I'm only into this journey a month now, and the people here helped me catch up on a lot of knowledge as I knew almost nothing about diabetes. (I'm still learning, but my kitty is making physical improvements, so I know we're on the right track!)
Hopefully, Boo will appreciate all the extra treats and loves during this process for you both and it will only strengthen your bond!

Oh P.S. I used to live in Iowa ages ago... I lived just outside of Des Moines for a few years growing up. I rode in RAGBRAI when I was 14, I'd love to be able to go back and do that ride again!
