Mogee just gave me a PMPS of 178!!

    I tested again, 183!

Should I skip his PM dose or give a smaller dose? He's just got increased to 3 units Friday night. Is usually 280+ preshot..

I fed him as I normally would and will retest in 20 min.

Know many recommend not giving insulin if under 200. Just worried if I don't give any at all, that it will backtrack us..

I did a 3rd test to make sure on my relion prime before feeding, it was 186.

    Hi Adam,

The recommendation on the board is to stall 20 minutes without feeding then retest to see if the number will rise on its own (as Prozinc is wearing off). If the number after 20 minutes is close to (e.g. 195) or above, you can feed and shoot. I believe you can stall 3 times.

I can stall 3 times? So like a total of one hour?

Just took again, 20 min later, 167.. which is pretty much the same reading as the others.

For Prozinc, you can delay it up to an hour but don’t shoot after one hour if the number is still low. Since you already fed him and gave the shot, you should still test at +2 and before bed to be on the safe side.

Next time, don't feed when you're stalling.....we want to get a number that's not influenced by food.

It takes 20-30 minutes for food to get broken down and into the bloodstream, so if (for example) you got a Preshot of 160 and you stalled, NOT fed and in 30 minutes he was 180, you'd be pretty darn sure that the last shot was wearing off and it'd be fine to go ahead and shoot

But if you feed, you don't know if that next test is 180 because of the shot wearing off or it's a food spike.

Okay. Dang it. Wasn't sure and thought I was supposed to feed. He barely ate and is at 200 now, half hour after PMPS. I am going to give his normal dose and watch very closely tonight.

    Appreciate the Help!

Merry Christmas everyone, so blessed to have found you all!

No worries.....there's a LOT to try to remember with the sugardance!!

Do I start with the right foot or the left? Do I swing my hips or my shoulders? Where's the music?? ...LOL

Next time (and there will be a "next time") you'll do better!!

Sorry we were not on when you first asked, before you had to just go with something. You already got the answer, but I agree.. . Stall 20 minutes w/out feeding then test again. You can do it two or even three times before making a call on whether to give the shot or not. You want to give the shot within an hour of your normal shot time or not at all.

You do not have any data on how he will respond at a pre-shot that low, so be careful and monitor him (which you already said you are going to do). If you still have some of the higher carb food on hand, you may need it if you start seeing him head too low early on. Mia has had a few low cycles lately, and I find that if I catch it going too low early enough, I can usually steer it up a bit with just a little higher carb food. Then, only if it gets really low, in the hypo range, do I pull out the big guns (Karo).

I hope it goes okay! Let us know.

Oh, and just so you won't feel like you are the only one who muddles through this, I'll share... Mia has been having such a good run. She went 19 consecutive cycles dropping into the 100s or less. Then, I messed it up. I gave her a stupid fur shot this morning. Beat myself up about it all day. :blackeye:

    Okay here we go again!

Mogee just gave me a PMPS of 145. Tested twice to make sure. Second reading 154.

I stall for 20 to 30 min right?!

..And if he doesn't come about 180 to 200, do I just feed then and skip tonight's shot?

Will missing a dose make his numbers rocket by AMPS?

I don't think I would skip completely. You gave a shot the other night on 183. I would probably give a reduced dose as long as you can monitor.
(I'm in the same boat with you, literally, right now. Mia's PMPS was 108, retested and got 109.. what the?! Stalling...)

    That's awesome, good job Mia!

If Mogee is anywhere near 180 I will give his injection. Going to go test now..

Don't forget that you can stall again if needed (or if you would be more comfortable seeing him go higher before giving shot).

He was just 182. I'm going to go ahead with the 3 units. The other night when he did this, he was 183 and I gave his 3 units and he never got back into the blue. I am able to monitor all night, so not too worried.

    Appreciate the help!

Right?! I'm happy, but I do finally go back to work today..

I am about to test again but have to leave for work in about 45 min...

If he is not above 175, I'm not giving an injection, since I'm not able to monitor today.

Have you had experience with no injection? Just worried if I give nothing, he will be skyrocketed by PMPS tonight. Just don't want to do more harm than good by no shot..

He was just 152. Up a bit. Going to wait 15 more minutes, test again, then decide what to do. Just worried as I can't monitor today.

Should I give reduced dose? He has done so well on 3 units, would hate to backtrack

I have not skipped any shots except for the unintentional furshot. When that happened, her next PS was higher than normal but not horrible. I actually gave her next shot an hour early to keep it from getting any higher. I then adjusted back to regular shot time over a couple of cycles. I'm not saying you have to do that, just saying that is what I chose to do.

I understand you not wanting to give insulin then leave him. I would probably give a very reduced dose just to give him something so he is not completely without today. The suggestions to me last night were to give 50-60% of the normal dose. Would you be comfortable with that? You really have to do what you feel comfortable with because so much of this is trial and error.

I would think moments like this are what makes home testing so crucial!

You got it! I feel like I have been walking a line lately between good numbers and the threat of heading too low, but from the reading I have done, that kind of tight management is usually what it takes to have a good chance of remission. So, I'll put up with the stress and keep hope alive! Have a good day.
