Hello .....Again, it's Karen. My Rocky is currently 15 lbs, that's down from 18 since diagnosis. I could never understand why he was so heavy (although I do know he is a large male)? I gave him ONLY 3/4 cup dry Perscription Diet C/D as per my vet. Now I know why since joining the forum. In any event, I am now feeding him Fancy Feast, watered down, 2 cans a day. He seems ravenous all the time. I think he should lose about 2 pounds to be at a good weight? How does one determine how much to feed. I don't want to starve him. Thanks again to all of you for your help. I will pay it forward:)

Diabetic cats tend to need more food until they are regulated. 2 cans doesn't sound like enough for your cat. My non diabetic 16 -17 lb cat ate 4-5 cans. I would give him at least 3 cans and see if that satisfy him. Do a can in the morning, 1/2 can in the afternoon, a can in the evening, and 1/2 can before bed.

I believe the formula is 20 calories per pound. So 13 x 20 would be 260 calories. Now keep in mind that rocky may need a little more as a diabetic.... So 3 cans of fancy feast would maintain a cat who is 13 lbs. Ff classic are about 85-95 calories per can.
