To get rid of all the spam posts until someone can come delete them: Click on the spammers picture or on their name under their post. There should be a pop up box that allows you to hit Ignore. If not, go to their Profile Page and hit Ignore in the upper right corner. This will make it so you don't see the spam posts. All posts from that member will disappear from your feed. It's a pain, but it's definitely better than seeing all those posts! The only issue is that depending on the amount of spam, it'll make several pages of your feed go away, but it's still better than scrolling through that spam looking for any posts I might have missed.
Me too and thanks Rachel for reminding on how to ignore them and clear them out of the way until a mod can get rid of them.
Bobbie, Good morning . I cannot get in to my alerts or inbox because it’s all written in Chinese! I could not see what was recommended regarding dosing this morning :-( gave Nellie her 4.75, aired on the side of caution instead of going up. I have rebooted my computer refresh my browser and still am getting all these post only written in Chinese!?! Any suggestions how
I think I've deleted all the spam... for the moment anyway! Thanks to @Sienne and Gabby (GA) for giving me the head's up on this mess! BTW, it's been going on all night. I went to bed a little over two hours ago and woke up to more.
@Bobbie And Bubba I'm recovering... slower than I anticipated, but I am getting better. Thanks, Bobbie!
Hi @Jill & Alex (GA) , I didn't know you were 'under the weather' and am glad to hear you are feeling better. Vines on the way.
With regard to the SPAM, perhaps @Robert and Echo will address the situation that our FDMB is not a secure site. I get a message to that effect (in the address window of my browser) every time I log on. I called it to Robert's attention several months ago and he said he was working on it. @Jill & Alex (GA)
This is a trickier change. I made the upgrade from HTTP ("not secure") to HTTPS ("secure") a while back and luckily my WordPress host made it relatively easy. However, I have a tiny site. It's a big endeavor for a site with lots of data... On another note, thanks for telling me how to Ignore/Report! Works great!
I admin a site that is HTTPS . It doesn't stop the spammers from registering fake accounts and posting their ruddy spam. It does have a spam filter facility so I can place certain words and symbols into the filter to shunt said spam into a pre approval queue . The mods and I can delete from there and the users are spared the sight of it all. However this doesn't stop all the spam bombers out there & we still get waves of love gurus and fake documents every now and again. It is annoying but it does die down....until it comes round again. Meh!
This may be related, maybe not. I use Windows 7, don't use Chrome, have a secure router password and use Microsoft Security Essentials. Almost every time I visit a site with a teaser at the bottom (Why "X" will never work in Hollywood again) that opens in a new page my Antivirus turns off. We share this computer and our e-mail so I'm looking at snow blowers, NOT porn. I get a warning with a phone number to call and cannot turn any running program off. The only way out of this mess is to restart. For newbies; Start, to the right of Shutdown is a small arrow, select Restart. If you're using Microsoft Security Essentials open it up, go to Home and if needed turn it back on. Spend another 25 minutes updating your virus definitions, then at least run a Quick Scan. Stay away from anything with the ubiquitous Green Arrow, Download Now. Don't talk to strangers isn't just for children. Why do people do anything? I used to visit a coffee shop where coin tips were left in a bowl of bleach too high for kids to reach.
