Hula was 60 at+6. His NADIR on good days wasn’t till +7 or +8. I fed home some gravy food and will check again. He was stumbling a bit when I made home get up and walk so I could see what he was like. I know this isn’t ridiculously low but we have a way to go. I will be checking him again in about 15 minutes to see if the food is raising him.
    Further advice?

And he got a 2.25 this morning. What type of reduction should I do tonight if he is back high enough to shoot?

    Thanks!
    Stephanie

I just checked him again and he is at 75. So he is climbing a bit from the food.

You really want to hold off on the carbs if they are staying above 50 on their own, and instead just give a snack of regular food. Ideally, you want them to be down in those safe greens and stay there as long as they can. Feeding carbs makes them jump up out of the greens. Also, when you introduce carbs, you can't tell if the dose is actually absolutely perfect and you want to keep it. Would Hula have stayed in safe greens all on his own? Or would he have continued to drop? A healthy prozinc cycle will bring them down into the greens, and then they will surf along for a few hours without dropping anymore.

At this point I would say do not reduce the dose. Instead, keep monitoring tonight and tomorrow and see what he does. If he gets into the lime greens, then you would reduce by 0.25u.

    This is good to know!
This is the first time he had gotten down that low and I was a bit concerned. He seems to have jumped back up now. I wouldn’t have been as concerned if he hadn’t been stumbling around. I will be sure to watch him tonight and see what he does.
    Thanks!

The first time is always scary. Really the first couple of times. It's extra complicated since this is Hula's second diagnosis. You need to be a bit more aggressive than folks who are on their first diagnosis since the second round is much harder to beat. I think it took me about six months into this second diagnosis to really realize how much the rules had changed.

i will for sure keep that in mind. And try not to panic! It made it more nerve wracking too that I could not stay home very long when it was happening. I had to be somewhere. I was just getting concerned and thinking of raising the dose again because he wasn’t moving at all during the day and then he threw me another cube ball.
I am thinking I will wait to see how is is today and tomorrow and then potentially raise a bit again if he isn’t moving?

I agree. Based on his responses to the 1.75 dose change, I would give it through tomorrow and see if the greens reappear, and if not you might try an increase. On that previous dose change, he had a few good response cycles and then started settling out higher, so he might have another good cycle or two in him before you need to change.

We have been several days now at this dose. He seems to be up and down and up and down. Not consistent for each cycle. Is this normal? He has been close to 50 yesterday and today during the day. Last night he was high at the same spot in the cycle. I wondered if I should drop he dose a smidge. If he could be bouncing.

At about +5.5 he was 53 today. I rechecked about 30 minutes later and he was 90 this was with no food in between. He hadn’t eaten for about an hour before I checked him if not a little more.

Even with this up and down he is getting good numbers, but it is super close to being too low which of course makes me nervous . So I just wanted to get your opinion
