Although my sugar kitty passed away a few months ago (of cancer) I am returning here to ask help. We need to give liquid antibiotics to several of our cats and have a hard time. I have gotten the medicine in a windpipe and the cat gagged. I felt awful. Is there a better way than forcing the teeth apart and squirting it in? I try for the side of the mouth, but they don't always hold still.
I so don't want to cause them any more stress with the remedy.
All suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Terry and Binky(GA)

Will they eat it mixed in their food? I've hidden other oral meds in small amounts of food that they will eat in one sitting.

I don't know if this helps how you feel, but the kitty was probably gagging from the taste -- it's very unlikely you got it down the wrong pipe. Would crushing the pills and mixing with food work? You could also try to get the liquid compounded into a flavor ... some of the meds made for humans are really awful, such as Zithromax which is a sour cherry flavor.
