Noodle has been on Lantus for 3 weeks with absolutely no significant BG reduction. As per the vet, he started at .50 U BID for a week, then 1U BID, then 1.50U, then 1.75U. His numbers are all over the place. Even though it is only 3 months old, has been refrigerated and handled carefully, it has bothered me that the vial of Lantus I have may be flat. My sis-in-law offered me one of her unopened Lantus pens to try tomorrow. My question is, should I start Noodle back at the beginning with the .5 U dose so as not to overwhelm his system in case the old vial was weak? I have no idea how to handle this and would welcome any advice. Thanks so much. I don't want to gamble with Noodle's safety but want to get him well ASAP.

    No, don't start over.

Instead, read over the Tight Regulation protocol and see if that makes sense to you. If you post in the lantus TR forum, you'll get good guidance on how to increase safely.
