Lantus - I'm confused with these new needles!

    I am giving my first Lantus shot. Cat was on Vetsulin.

    Vet wants to start at 2 units but I am afraid to do more than 1.5. He had been on only 1 u of Vetsulin and just recently went up to 1.5. The needles I have start with a 5. I don't know what that is. Is that 1/2. I asked for needles that had half markings. They say 3/10 U100 on them.

    Although the first number marked is 5 units (not 0.5 or half a unit), there are four little lines above it. Each line represents 1 unit.

    The very first long line closest to the needle is always zero. Some people don't bother counting the zero line.

    On a whole unit scale, it is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, etc.

    On a half unit scale, the little lines sticking out to the left (from picture above) are the half units. The lines sticking out to the right are the whole units.
