hi, so we tried Fred on a variety of different wet foods, raw chicken etc for the last 4 or so months but unfortunately Fred is a bit of a special case in that he has always had digestive issues well before his diabetes so most foods give him diarrhoea and stomach upset and the only food we have ever found that doesn’t upset him is ID dry food which is very hi carb. Initially when diagnosed we took him straight of the hi carb food as recommended by everyone on here and went through a variety of wet foods. His levels got better but his stomache upset got worse and he was bouncing all over the place and not gaining weight. When we recently boarded him at a specialist cat clinic for 5 weeks they were very concerned about him being so underweight and believed the constant upset stomache was likely a major cause for his unpredictable bouncing and being so hard to regulate so they put him back on ID dry food with our permission and his bowels went back to normal and he gained all of his weight back but his levels went really high. His personality seems a lot better and he is a much healthier weight on the dry food but his levels are staying in the 20s. I feel like we are in a place where we are doomed either way if we stick with dry he seems happier and healthier but his levels stay dangerously high if we go wet food he is miserable and has diarrhoea but we get much lower safer numbers. Has anyone had any success or advice on regulating diabetics while on a high carb diet? Is it even possible?

If he needs ID food then you just have to increase his dose to compensate. For some great advice on the best way to do this, post on the Lantus forum.
