When we went for his senior check on Saturday - they did a blood pressure screening on my old guy - he is ~ 17/18. His BP was 200 - yikes.

He went back for a recheck tonight - the vet brought us into the "quiet room" - it is set up like a little sitting room with a couch and a rug. I brought him his favorite treats, freeze dried shrimp, and fish flakes.

This time I restrained him slightly (he hates being held or restrained in anyway) instead of a vet tech. I petted on him and gave him scritches.

And the results were.............~160. Whew...... I was really worried for my gentle orange boy.

They said, he looks like a 10 year old not a 17 yo.

He does go back for a cysto (?) to test USG tomorrow - just to be safe.

Glad it came back down w/ less stress.
Being a Sr guy, I would hightly recommend you add BP check to his regular check ups ( biannual ? )

hope the USG turns out well

    Cheryl,

The vet has recently add the BP check as a regular part of the senior check ups. So we will definitely get it checked at least twice a year.
