EDIT: Nevermind this good report on Mouzer. I have it all in comments.
He has high bg reads but I am confused. My latter comments will show why.

I havent been here in quite a while. I think of you all often. Mouzer is still in remission. And Mouzer is walking great, so the neuropathy is not there, or however you say that. If anyone recalls, his diabetes was steroid induced and steroid was depo-medrol shots for feline stomatits.

I was able to raise the money through a fundraiser and we had all of Mouzer's teeth extracted in December of 2017. He is doing GREAT! No more stomatitis flare ups, so no worry about steroids because he cant have them anyhow. He is getting pretty fat and he is a large cat, so that could be normal, but I worry just because so many things go wrong with cats. I havent had the money to get him a check up and I hope it is just a fat Mouzer cat.

I have a kitty named FatBoy that I have had since he was not quite a year old and he is 15 years old now. He got hyperthyrodism and I raised the money to get his radio-active iodine treatment, when he was 14. He is well from that BUT he then broke one of his legs, so I got that mended.

BUT then he has some neurological issue that now he can use his leg but his foot is paralyzed. The neurologist did place FatBoy on prednisone for 15 days and that got FatBoy walking again. I know that prednisone is a steroid.

AND BUT NOW, he has fluid on his lungs because of hyperthyroidism damaging his heart and a bladder infection. The vet has him on medications. His bladder, I think, is better because he was walking lopsided and is walking normal again. I wont know about his lungs until he sees the vet again on Oct 12th. The vet is hoping medication dries up the fluids but if not, she says we will have to tap the fluid out.

The reason I am mentioning FatBoy is because his BG is at 250. The vet says she is hoping it is due to the stress of what is going on with his body right now, with the fluid on his lungs and bladder infection. She had me put him on prescription food, in hopes that will control his BG, until we can see how this goes with getting him well otherwise.

FatBoy hates Science Diet and refused to eat the prescription food, so I got him Royal Canin for diabetic control and he loves that. There is no insulin involved at this time and we hope it wont be needed. I do have fears because of the prednisone that was given to FatBoy, just six months ago. I am hoping his 250bg is not diabetes and knowing he was just given prednisone causes me to worry.

So, if FatBoy's BG does not go down, and I had Mouzer on LANTUS, would you suggest that if the food does not control his BG and if he has to go on insulin, that I tell the vet I want LANTUS? Because I am familiar with LANTUS now, because of you guys, and if by chance FatBoy does have diabetes, I will be here with the message board for help for sure!!

    Great update on Mouzer!

As for FatBoy, I would transition him to a low carb wet food that isn't expensive like the prescription food. I would test him before he eats then again 3 hours later to see if his pancreas is working. But if you do need him to start insulin, tell the vet you want Lantus because you have experience with that particular insulin. Do you have any left from when Mouzer was on it?

I forgot to ask you all, I was wondering, instead of this prescription food if it is ok to just give low carb food. I mentioned that to the vet and she declared NO! And that he has to have the prescription food. I am glad you thought to mention this! So, I can just go to fancy feast chicken and turkey pates? That is what I fed Mouzer while he was on insulin. And that would be just as good as the prescription food? I actually was only feeding FatBoy this same food Mouzer ate, before his bg went up, but I did also let him have some higher carb because the radio-active iodine vet wanted him to get his weight put back on, which he is almost to that right weight now.

I would have Mouzer's insulin but we had to evacuate for Hurricane Irma last September and I forgot about the insulin in the fridge, because Mouzer was no longer needing it, I just totally forgot about it. It got left behind and it was a week in the heat, so I threw it out because it did not stay cold. Mouzer never even finished the first pin I bought here in the US, so that year supply I bought from Canada was trashed money because of that darn hurricane hahahaha Oh Well! - That insulin would be over a year old now, so probably wouldnt have been good now, I guess.

HOWEVER, if the Canada site still honors Mouzer's prescription, I should be able to purchase more LANTUS without having to provide a new script. They dont know what kitty is getting it. And so, if the vet disagrees about LANTUS, I can ignore her and just do what I know to do, as long as the Canada site will honor Mouzer's old script --- and that would be to come here with that LANTUS and FatBoy and get help with dosing. I dont trust the vet if by chance FatBoy has diabetes and all that vet needs to know is if FatBoy's bg is good or bad.

Yes! But isn't Mouzer still getting that food? He is now a diet-controlled diabetic so you have to always keep him on low carb foods.

What a tragedy about the insulin being lost!! :(

Mouzer is eating normal food. I did not know he is to forever be on low carb! I do check his bg from time to time and it is normal but I will get him back to eating the low carb for safety purposes. Gee! I guess I am lucky he isnt having to have insulin now! I sure hope he doesnt become diabetic again because of this!
WoW! Now I am freaking out :D

I am having some internet issues, wifi going in and out. I will keep you updated about FatBoy and his bg, at least up to if we see his bg going back to normal and if not, then I will be here with him. And I will get Mouzer back on low carb real fast like! I am going to shut down now and do chores but I surely will be back!

Great news for Mouser. The low carb fancy feast for both of them is ideal. It will help keep Mouser in remission and get Fatboy on the right track. Should you need insulin and Mark's won't use the script they already have or Dr won't script lantus, check the supply closet here. People no longer needing insulin or change insulin s offer their stash up cheaply or for shipping costs. Also Alan (in supply closet) can get insulin and will sell to you at a decent price, I've bought from him a few times. At the vet just smile and nod if you have to.

I'm glad Mouzer is doing well. Sorry to hear FatBoy is having so many problems. I hope the vet can get him doing better. Definitely put both kitties on low carb food. The prescription food is all high carb. Sending prayers.

OMG! HELP! The last time I checked Mouzer's bg was a month ago. I just checked it after Mandy's comment and Mouzer's bg was 400 and I checked it one more time and got 360!! OMG!! I have to see if Mark's Pharmacy will let me order LANTUS for Mouzer and hopefully so because I do not trust the vet. I will have to come back with help for Mouzer again. Other than low carb, is there anything I can do until I get insulin? :( If Mark's will honor the script that is there, it will take two or three weeks to get here :(

Transition both cats to low carb food as soon as possible and test both to see their responses to the new food for a few days to build up data.

I'm so sorry nobody informed you about keeping Mouzer on low-carb foods after he went into remission.

If I was informed, I either missed it or I forgot and now I feel like crap! Mouzer's reading is right now first test 400 second test 360. I am putting in a refill on script, in hopes Mark's honors the script I used before. I just made a post about this but I see your comment, so making sure you know. OMG! If they honor the script that is there, it will take two or three weeks to get here :(

This is the comment I made up above and I am totally freaking out...

    ------------------

I am editing now at 3pm EST to mention FatBoy. He has been on medication for the fluids in his lungs and bladder infection since Oct 1st. At that time his reading was 250 for bg. So, hopefully it was the stress to his body causing that reading. I just tested him and he is at 69. I will keep testing him and keep him on low carb.

BUT MOUZER! 400 and 360 - He is back on low carb but I seriously doubt that low carb would bring him to normal and I have ordered insulin, in hopes Mark's Pharmacy will honor that prescription from last year. I did it as a refill, so hopefully they wont make me get another prescription. This new vet has her own pharmacy and I dont know that she would email a new script to me for Mouzer, so I could order from where I want to - or maybe it is she has to? I dont know. I just hope Mark's refills the order and there are no issues.

For now, I have to wait and it will take two or three weeks to get insulin here for Mouzer. I am gathering everything together, the syringes with needles and all we used in past, to make sure I am ready and will have to come here to start with the first dose for sure, because I do forget a lot and will have to read and refresh my memory. I am just wondering if you have suggestions to do while I wait for insulin, other than low carb diet.

I am very confused right now but when you get back and have time, we will see how Mouzer has been doing.

Mark's pharmacy let me know they are processing the order of insulin.
This is odd and I may not need insulin but being as I have been made scared to death, I prefer it is here for just in case, so I may have wasted my money but I will have ease of mind, knowing it is here.

Here is what is odd... Look at 7pm tonight for the latest read

    Starting Yesterday:
    10/08/2018
    11am 400 / 11:05am 360
    2pm refusing to eat
    7pm 377 3oz lc
    10pm 371 refusing to eat

    10/09/2018
    7am 377 3oz lc
    11am 371 refusing to eat
    2pm refusing to eat
    3pm 340 refusing to eat
    7pm 82 refusing to eat
    7:45p 104
    7:46p 100

Is Mouzer on lower carb food now? It could explain why his numbers are coming down. Did you test again when you got the 82 to make sure it wasn't a bad test?

It is possible the change in food will be all he needs.

He only ate a 3oz can of low carb at 7am est. He is refusing to eat. I did not test again. Should I test again now and see what I get? It is 7:37pm and that last test was at 7pm.

Go ahead and test again. It's still possible you will need it for FatBoy.

Like @carfurby said, the numbers will improve when you get them both onto low carb foods.

Any time you see a number that is completely different than what you've been getting it is a good idea to retest to make sure you didn't a bad test strip.

    What ya think?
I will keep testing and forever low carb and see how this goes.
I have no regrets in spending that money on insulin.
I was freaking out that I had none and the wait for it to get here is long,
so whether I need it or not, it eases my mind to have it here.

On the spreadsheet, I have forgotten how to make it go one line down in the same box?
I forget what I did to do that, so things come out nice and neat.

I am sorry you are in this situation...but when I hear that a Veterinarian has a problem with issuing a written scripts if asked I always look up the state.
    ----------------------------------------------------------
Florida Statutes, Chapter 474 Veterinary Medical Practice (AVMA)

474.214. Disciplinary proceedings (1) The following acts shall constitute grounds for which the disciplinary actions in subsection (2) may be taken:

(pp) Failing to give the owner of a patient, before dispensing any drug, a written prescription when requested.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

I am fairly new to this, but I think if we can keep our kitties "calm" and unstressed, this helps the BGs. Just like they become elevated in the Vet's office, if they are stressed at home for some reason, they also may become elevated. Best to you and your kitties. Lu and Spike.

They should. I've refilled China's insulin 3 or 4 times since I submitted our original script and that was in 2014 I think.

It shouldn't take 2-3 weeks either.....About a week, maybe less. I've ordered as late as Monday afternoon and gotten the insulin in my mail on Friday.

I tested FatBoy at 69 a little earlier. He ate at 7pm and I did not test him before he ate because I have to give him medication for his lungs after he eats his supper meal and I did not want him upset, so if I am awake at 10pm, I will test Mouzer and test FatBoy again. I hope FatBoy is back to normal and it was the bladder infection causing his numbers to go up.

    @DevilPup
Thank you for that information. I appreciate your looking that up. I would not have known how.

    @Chris & China
Did you have the same vet for those refills?
I was worried because we dont have the same vet and I read on their website that they will contact the vet for updated prescriptions. But they have notified and told me they are processing the order, so - so far it appears they are sending it. They have not taken payment yet and I hope there is no issue. I am surprised they have not taken payment out yet.

They won't until the order is processed

That's another reason I was so thrilled with them and knew they were a good business and not one of those rip-off website pharmacies.

They didn't want my credit card info until they had the script and were ready to go

I had to provide my credit card info at the time I placed the order. I see they have ran the card for payment as of today.
I dont know where you are located and I am in Florida. When I ordered for my first time, a little over a year ago,
it took a full week and a weekend then the Monday of the following week for it to arrive here, from the time I placed the order. I dont know how it will go this time.
Being as Mouzer's numbers seem to be staying in the blue, I am not so stressed now with it getting here quickly, at least.

I am going to place FatBoy's and Mouzer's bg test I have, so far today.
I am not testing FatBoy regularly, like Mouzer. FatBoy is appearing to be back to normal, so it must have been due to his bad bladder infection for that 250 read done at the vet's office on October 1st. And FatBoy is wanting to kill me for sticking his ear, so I can be real thankful he is back to normal :D

Mouzer is staying blue so far.
I do not know if this means any need for shots or not, so someone will have to let me know if/when this comes to the need of shots for Mouzer.
Mouzer has not eaten since 7am on Oct 9th. He wants in my husband's bedroom, where there is dry kitty food, but I have not let him in there and have been keeping him away from all food, except the low carb I keep placing before him. Surely he will eat it at some point, when he is hungry enough. He is over weight and I would think this is one way to lose weight but I dont know if his not eating or eating just one 3oz can a day is good either.

Don't let Mouzer not eat too long. You are risking hepatic liposis. Have you tried meat baby food to entice him? Or crumble some dry food on top of the wet food to get him started?

I just gave him a 3oz can of Fancy Feast Turkey Feast Chunky. I do not know if that is lc or not. I am going to go look at the list.
But he hasnt eaten all day and he is eating this. I hope it isnt anything too high in carbs. Just letting you know what I have done.

The chart shows FF Turkey Feast Chunky is 5 in carbs. Is that ok? And is that something he can eat as lc. Because he is loving this one.

I noticed that the FF Turkey Feast Chunky has a little bit of liquid to it and he was licking that up as he ate. Glad to know the 5 is lc, so I can feed that to him.
I have FF Chicken Feast Chunky and it shows 4. He will probably like that one too because it is same texture and liquid as the Turkey Feast Chunky.

I got my weighing scale and Mouzer weighs 20 pounds.
Mouzer is a large Russian Blue and it is normal for him to be bigger than the average cat, but I can see in his belly that he is overweight.
He appears to me to be larger than he should be, even for his being a large cat.
So, I hope the no dry food and the lc only will help him lose weight.

I do have a food question. I see some Friskies on the list that are lc and Mouzer has eaten these all along, with the other kitties. He has had access to dry food and some of the higher carb Friskies, is the only thing I can contribute to his higher numbers. So, is it ok to let him eat these lc Friskies, with the other kitties, when they eat these?
And I ask because I did see that FF has the higher protein, so I want to know if it is still ok for Mouzer to share in on these foods or should I keep him with only the FF because of the higher protein?

Great! That way he can eat Friskies with the others when I serve those particular foods.
Mouzer has gone green about this same time for the third day, since making sure he is getting only low carb food, then the rest is being blue, so far.
I am offering food, but I cant make him eat, as much as I wish I could. At least he is eating some now.
I wanted to test three hours after he ate, so that is why for the now test for 6:15p.
I am trying to back off on so many test to preserve his ears :D

Wow ... what a journey. Glad that both kitties numbers seem to be better with the switch back to low carb food. It’s good to hear from you. Sending vines for Mouzer to eat and both kitties to continue to not need insulin.
