Hi Jenny, welcome to FDMB. It is a bit bewildering and confusing when you begin diabetic treatment for a newly diagnosed cat.

So that we can see what's going on, would you please create your signature and then set up the spreadsheet so that you can plug in the insulin and testing data you have so far.

Setting up your signature (light grey text under a post). Here's how:
click on your name in the upper right corner of this page
click on "signature" in the menu that drops down
type the following in the box that opens: kitty's name/age/date of diabetes diagnosis/insulin you're using and dosage amount /glucose meter you're using/what (s)he eats/any other meds or health issues (s)he has. You can add your name, and a geographic location (sometimes the country/time zone matters) Be sure to SAVE when you are finished.
Spreadsheet: You will see how the trends and patterns emerge, and members can review his/her progress before offering suggestions or advice:

We will be happy to make some some diet recommendations as soon as we see what part of the world you live in. Not all cat food varieties are available everywhere.

Regarding dosing the Vetsulin, ECID (every cat is different) and what Phoebe needs is not necessarily what another cat needs. When we see what dose you are on, and the testing data in the spreadsheet, then we can see what adjustments might need to be made. Without any data, it's impossible to even begin to make any recommendations.

It may be helpful for you to read the information here: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/beginners-guide-to-caninsulin-vetsulin.186099/

Merrick is a decent wet food for diabetics, what we need to see is the trends from your testing -- good that you are testing!

several of us on the board are either using Vetsulin now (here's the link to the forum specifically for that : http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/forums/caninsulin-vetsulin-and-n-nph.19/ ) or have been using it recently -- we'd be happy to help with more information about what's been going on with you

if you want to see a spreadsheet with Vetsulin, take a look at Catcat's SS ... the first half is when he was on Vetsulin

Which kind of Merrick is she eating? And congrats on starting testing! However it will be hard for anyone to provide dosing advice from just one number, so setting up a spreadsheet as Lou has suggested will help a lot. It’s important to test before each injection and before you feed (so test her BG, feed, then give insulin) and then at least at the lowest point, which for Vetsulin is usually at 4-6 hours after you give insulin. That will help give an idea of how the insulin is working for Phoebe
