Oi. Once again I have a low pmps. I don't know if you have read the threads on Health regarding Pearl but we believe she had/is having a pancreatitis flare. For the first time ever, I am giving her buprenex. 1/2 the dose recommended even! Just once a day! But I believe it is having a HUGE effect on her numbers. If you look at her spreadsheet you can see what happened yesterday. I ended up shooting at +14 (it was either shoot early or late because I had an appointment. Late seemed more prudent). I only shot 2 u at 204. This morning she was at 304 and it was her normal preshot time so I moved her back and shot, but only 3u since I don't know what is up right now. Well, now I am wondering what to do. I am going to wait abit. I was thinking give it one hour and if she is up a bit I could do 2.5 splitting the difference of what I shot on 200 (basically) last night. OTOH, she hasn't dipped horribly low. I could stick with 3u and see where she goes. Unlike many of you, I'm a little uncomfortable in the green. WHat do you think?

karen just give as much as you possibly can and still be comfortable with.

sure does look like pain was keeping numbers up. you might be getting a triple effect form the bupe, hitting the CP fare pain, teeth pain, and maybe some arthritis pain since she played today while on it? that is what it looks like to me....

You know, I have only given .05cc ONCE a day. I gave that one yesterday before work and she was playing in the middle of last night. YIKES. Yeah, I mean, I haven't heard her run around like that for, seriously, a couple of years. I feel bad. I wonder how bad her teeth hurt (though I imagine the arthritis is worse. Or more prevelent? I don't know. I wish they could talk.) OK, I'll just give it a little more. I just can't bring myself to shoot under 200.

So this begs the question....is there a way to manage her pain? I can't give her this stuff forever!

OK, if anyone is reading this, her +13 was 186 so I shot 2u. I know changes doses and times is not good, but I have no idea what she is doing right now.

well....is there a possibility of getting a dental done by specialist? they are used to doing anesthesia on difficult cases, more so than reg vet.
and as far as the arthritis, what is she on so far? the 'usual' progression is start on cosequin, then go to dasuquin, then on to adequin injections. if she is that bad you might need to start with the injections. they are usually given by vet on a certain schedule (loading doses and then maintenance) but for those that are as used to giving injections as diabetic cat owners, it is done at home. talk to nina/KB tomorrow for further info and about the changes she saw once she put KB on the injections. k?

if those 2 things are handled then you only need bupe for when she has CP flares.
