Our cat, Spookything, was just diagnosed with Diabetes yesterday. We are supposed to be giving him 2 units of insulin twice a day. Me and hubby are feeling very overwhelmed as this is new to us. We are wondering..... If kitty only eats half his prescribed meal, do we only give him half the dose of insulin? We sooo don't want to do anything wrong!

Welcome Spookything and his parents! :bighug:
We definitely understand that overwhelmed feeling you both have right now but we can help :). Before answering you question I'm going to ask you to setup your Signature with some information about Spookything. Will also save you from answering them later and remind those of us with bad memories :p

I will ask if you and or DH (dear hubby) will be home testing? It's the best tool in our FD (feline diabetes) toolbelt. We use Google sheets to track BG (blood glucose) levels and if you need help setting one up, just ask!

Lastly, I like to give this to new members to read ahead of time, better to be prepared, but I hope you never need it: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/how-to-treat-hypos-they-can-kill-print-this-out.15887/

sorry for your diagnosis... I remember all too well how overwhelming it is! That first week or two is the hardest! but glad you found this place. It's a very active forum and lots of people to help.

What kind of insulin is it? 2 units is a rather large starting dose. Most kitties start at 1 unit and work their way up. Depending on your insulin, it may be more or less important if there's food in him. It's more important that he's eating if he's on Vetsulin or Novolin. what are you feeding him?
