    Hi
Our cat Cher is having Lantus 4 units twice daily which she commenced in June this year when she was diagnosed with feline diabetes. The diabetes was possibly caused by the commencement of steroids which the IM specialist prescribed for her IBD.
This morning after I gave her her shot, I noticed the skin around the injection site was very bruised (dark grape purple in colour) in quite a large area (possibly the size of a twenty cent piece).
Prior to the shot, her skin was normal in colour.
I did draw back after the needle was inserted but there was no blood visible in the syringe.
Has anyone experienced this type of bruising after injecting?
    Thanks,
    Jan

    Good morning,
do you re-use your needles, or do you use each one once only?
Do you always inject (shoot) into the same area?
Is the purple colored area warm to the touch and does she behave as in pain when you touch that area?
What are her BG numbers over the past couple of days?
An inflammation to the area can cause abnormally high numbers.

    Hi, thank you for responding....
We only use the needle once
We inject into a different area each time
The purple coloured area does not appear to be warmer than the surrounding areas
She will allow us to touch it
Ove the last two days, her BG numbers fluctuated from 8.3 to 24.5
Todays numbers were 11.2 to 26.2, however tonight's reading was 31.3
She is still not regulated .. her prednisolone was reduced to half a tablet commencing 9 days ago and it is only since then that her readings have begun to come down. Prior to that her readings have gone off the scale. We use the AlphaTrak II.
I notice she is licking the bruised area as I type this.
    Thanks, Jan
