Hi everyone. It has been nearly a year since I've been on this board (well, the old one anyway). I had to put my 10 yr old diabetic cat, Mabel, to sleep 4/20/09 after 9 months of trying to manage her diabetes (she went into ketosis (sp?) and went downhill quickly). It was a big blow to me, partly because I was about 34 wks pregnant with twins (so I was hormonal and emotional anyway). Exactly 3 months later we had to put our other cat, Violet (13 yrs), to sleep after gallbladder problems that would have required a specialist to perform exploratory surgery to hopefully correct. But the loss of Mabel paled in comparison to the loss of my baby son just 10 days later - he was stillborn (completely unexpected and for unknown reasons) and his twin sister was born healthy as can be. I had gestational diabetes during pregnancy and used the One Touch Mini and so I ended up with some leftover test strips and lancets.

So getting to the point of my post - I have about 100 One Touch Ultra test strips (expiring 05/10) and about 25-50 One Touch lancets. I know lots of board users use these meters to test their cat's glucose and that someone may have a use for these extra supplies. I just checked Mabel's glucose a few times toward the end of her life with my personal meter, and I have to say it was easier than I thought it ever would be.

If you are interested in these supplies, please let me know - you can post here or try emailing me through my user name. First come, first serve. We can talk offline to make arrangements to mail the supplies once I figure out who wants it.

    Dear Melissa,

This is so very, very sad to hear about the loss of your twin baby son. That had to be so devastating, and I can only pray that his little twin sister has helped to take some of the tremendous sadness from your heart and your family's loss. May she continue to be healthy and be a wonderful joy to you now and always!

Also, I am saddened to hear of the loss of your two furbabies, Mabel and Violet. This was a very difficult (to say the least) year for you to go through and my heart goes out to you and all that you have suffered this past year.

Sending many prayers to you and your family and thank you for being kind enough to think of others during this time.

    ((((HUGS)))),

    Dearest Melissa,

My heart goes out to you on your losses. How very sad and emotional the past year has been for you. I can't imagine your pain, really I can't. I am so glad you have your baby girl to pour your love into.

Cindy and Mousie puts together newbie kits for folks who are new to hometesting. I know that she can always use OTU strips and lancets for those kits. I sent you her address by PM.

Thank you so much for being so generous.

Oh dear sweet woman...... I'm so very sorry for your losses. I have been their on both issues... it is hard to conceive of them occurring almost together as yours did.

However a picture popped into my head as soon as I'd finished reading it... the picture of Mabel and Violet... they were playing so very gently with the sweetest little boy spirit.... he'd throw a star and the kitties would run after it... they'd bring it back to him and he'd giggle... you know a baby giggle... they're the sweetest kind.

I'm sure that they're together and having a wonderful time together... the angels are so gentle and careful with them... and have guided them to where they can peek down to watch their mommy and sister playing together.... Your smile still makes them all very happy.

God bless and keep you until you're all together once again.

Thank you everyone for all the kind words - I really appreciate it. I hope all of your kitties continue to flourish under your love, care, & dedication to managing their diabetes. I've been there, and I know it can seem a little crazy at times (like when you explain to someone that you give your cat insulin shots 2x a day, test their glucose, etc.) but those furbabies are worth it.

And I just wanted to let everyone know that the test strips & lancets have been spoken for - thanks for the interest.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your baby son and Kitties Mable and Violet. I, too, had an image of the girls meeting him on the "other side". They will be together waiting for you when you get there many, many years from now.

Peace be on your heart, and joy for your daughter.
