over the counter insulin

    has anyone use over the counter insulin?? I just heard from my vet that you can get it at Walmart. currently we are using Lantus. I will also post this on the Lantus board.

    You can buy both regular insulin and NPH insulin over the counter in most states. The NPH insulin is the longer acting insulin (8-12 hours). It has both a steeper peak, and a shorter duration than lantus (no actual peak 12-24 hr duration). For NPH, you may have to switch to every 8 hour dosing or possible a modified schedule. The benefit of NPH is that it's not a depot insulin so you can adjust the schedule easier and also utilize faster dose changes. You can purchase it off www.adwdiabetes.com as well.
