I'm working off line with a woman (Suzuane) with a maybe-diabetic cat who prefers Purina One Healthy Weight over the canned Fancy Feast.

Any ideas about % of calories from carbohydrates? (Besides the basic facts that the carbs must be high and the cat shouldn't be getting dry food.)

    Guaranteed Analysis
    Crude Protein (MIN) 40.0%
    Crude Fat (MIN) 9.0%
    Crude Fiber (MAX) 5.0%
    Moisture (MAX) 12.0%
    Linoleic Acid (MIN) 1.4%
    Calcium (Ca) (MIN) 0.8%
    Phosphorus (P) (MIN) 0.7%
    Selenium (Se) (MIN) 0.30 mg/kg
    Vitamin A (MIN) 11,000 IU/kg
    Vitamin E (MIN) 100 IU/kg
    Taurine (MIN) 0.15%

    Ingredients

Turkey, corn gluten meal, poultry by-product meal, soybean meal, brewers rice, whole grain corn, fish meal, soybean hulls, dried yeast, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), animal liver flavor, phosphoric acid, calcium carbonate, caramel color, salt, choline chloride, taurine, potassium chloride, zinc sulfate, Vitamin E supplement, ferrous sulfate, manganese sulfate, niacin, Vitamin A supplement, calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, copper sulfate, riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, calcium iodate, biotin, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), sodium selenite.

If Suzuane were to go to Purina for "as fed" values, can someone point me to instructions on what she asks for, and then instructions on how to manipulate the numbers to get as-fed carbohydrates?

    Thanks!!

From Janet & Binky's food chart FAQ (http://binkyspage.tripod.com/foodfaq.html):

When you get that information, click on the Excel spreadsheet link in the FAQ and fill in the numbers.

Using the guaranteed analysis (which we all know is not accurate) to get a rough estimate I come up with approximately 34% carbs.
