Scooter has just been changed to Lantus. She was on Vetsulin for quite awhile but after she was treated for a UTI, I couldn’t get her regulated again. My vet suggested Lantus. I got the Lantus pen and am using syringes to draw it out. (I am using the correct syringes). I have read here how some people have gotten several months out of one pen. My question is, does keeping it in the refrigerator prolong the shelf life? Thanks!

Yes, keep the pen in the fridge and it should last until it’s used up. Also do not shake or roll it, or shoot any air into it.

I did shoot air into it the first time I used it. Have I totally screwed it up?

Nope, not at all.....actually, as you use it, you'll find there's no way to not get some air in there, even if you don't add it yourself.

Air doesn't hurt the insulin itself....we just don't put air into the pens because it already has a vacuum system.
