    hi everyone

I was a regular here a few years ago and following lots of help from the group remi achieved remission and luckily remained in remission for the rest of his life. He even managed to go back on steroids for his IBD and keep his blood glucose low.

Tonight I made the very tough decision to let my baby go. He had suffered bad IBD and pancreatitis for the last few years and then yesterday vomited blood from a suspected ulcer. When he vomited blood and collapsed tonight I felt it was time to set him free of his poor body. I am not sure if I let him go too early but was frightened of leaving it too late. He was the best boy anyone could ask for and will never be replaced. I hope he forgives me as I couldn't tell if he was ready to go and feel very guilty.

    Can someone post the poem

I'm sorry for your lost. cat_wings>o:rb_icon:

    Four Feet in Heaven

Your favorite chair is vacant now…
No eager purrs to greet me.
No softly padded paws to run
    Ecstatically to meet me.

No coaxing rubs, no plaintive cry
Will say it’s time for feeding.
I’ve put away your bowl, and all
    The things you won’t be needing;

But I will miss you little friend,
    For I could never measure
    The happiness you brought me,
    The comfort and the pleasure.

And since God put you here to share
    In earthly joy and sorrow;
I’m sure there’ll be a place for you
    In Heaven’s bright tomorrow…

So sorry to hear it was time for Remi to leave you :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Please don't feel guilty or question your decision. The only thing worse than letting them go too early is to let them go too late.

Better that they are released a day too early than a minute too late.

There's a fable titled "The Loving Ones" that I hope you'll read. That's it's official name, but I've always called it "You Have Chosen Tears" will make you cry, but in your tears, you'll find healing.

Fly free sweet Remi and land softly! There are many friends at the Bridge to welcome you and keep you company until the one you love most comes to be with you forever. cat_wings>o

I lit a candle for Remi. I'm so sorry it was his time to go to the Bridge. Don't doubt yourself; you gave him the hardest but most loving of all gifts - you let him go before his life became unbearable. You helped him leave with dignity and peace, surrounded by love. He will be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge, pain-free and whole, for the day you are reunited. Until then, let his love and your wonderful memories of him help your heart to heal.❤️

I'm so very sorry, Sarah (hope I've remembered your name right, if not my apologies).

You have the understanding and shared sorrow of everyone here. We share your pain and your tears. We know how your heart is breaking and nothing seems right any more. We know your confusion over whether it was the right time. There is never a right time for us, but it is better to do whatever is best for our beloved kitties than allow them to carry on for our own sake. You did the loving and selfless thing.

Wishing you happy memories and peace. It will take a while so be gentle with yourself. Go over to the Grief forum also if you wish, it is a place where you will get as much understanding and support as you need. I spent a great deal of time there following my own losses... it might help at some point.

    Sending you gentle hugs.

I remember Remi well. I am so sorry you had to make the decision to help him cross. It is never an easy decision and most of us question if we did the right thing at the right time. We never want to let them go but we must for their sakes.
I hope in time you will start to remember the happy memories.
Fly free Remi and land softly at the rainbow bridge where I am sure there will be a lot of your old FDMB friends to welcome you with open arms. :rb_icon:cat_wings>o

I will light a candle for Remi tonight.

Don't feel guilty honey.... you obviously have tremendous love for your Remi and would never want and suffering.
It was the last favor you could offer. Be gentle with yourself and know you have much support on this forum.
From experience I will offer this advice.... For those who do not understand the bond it is hard to explain what you could see was happening so if I could do it over I would not ask others opinions unless they have been thru this very difficult decision. Big hugs to you....

    Dear Sarah,

It is with a very heavy heart that I read your awful news. I know how very deeply you love Remi and all you have done for so long to look after him - he could not have had a better mama (((Sarah))). I know how devastated you must be. I don't know whether this is what you were looking for, but it helps me and I hope it will help you a little bit, too ...

    The Loving Ones

Lighting a candle for your precious, beautiful boy ...

Sarah, for as long as I've known you through this board I know how hard you worked to do everything possible to help Remi - and always with the utmost care and devotion to his needs. I have every faith that when the time came you made the decision he needed you to make. Doesn't make the agony any less ... :(

My heart is aching for you.

Thank you all for your lovely messages. They made me cry lots.

This board has always provided such love and support and helped with remi. I was lucky that his diabetes became diet controlled, but that was only through the group effort of the people on this forum and my fantastic vet. Unfortunately his other conditions were less easy to manage and his IBD became a full time occupation (or preoccupation) for me. Throughout his life remi remained the best, most faithful and loving cat that anyone could have hoped for. He put up no fuss whether I was pilling him, injecting him, puffing him and generally hassling him to eat.

I will re read all the messages again once the pain has lessened slightly and will post a tribute on the grief forum.

So very sorry that Remi has crossed the Bridge. When the time comes it is our deep love that allows us to give the greatest and hardest gift to our furbabies.
