Whew! After 4 months, Gidget finally had a reading of 220 this morning. This is the first time she's been under 300!!! To make a long story short, I've been slowly increasing her dosage by .5 units, (every week-10 days) as her readings were not improving at all....ranging between 326-505.....so this morning, with her being at 220, I don't know if I should give her insulin or not....help ! :) btw, she is now up to 8.5 units of prozinc

Your current dose seems very high to me. I have added a post to the ProZince forum to ask someone to help you.

One thing I noticed in your signature is that you are feeding dry food. Dry food significantly raises glucose levels and that is most likely the reason you are not able to get Gidget's glucose under control. The best diet for a diabetic is a low carb canned or raw food diet. However do not remove the dry food until you lower your insulin dose. Your cat could become hypoglycemic if you do. That could be extremely dangerous. Unless your cat has other health issues that would require large insulin dose, most cats only need 1-2 units per dose.

If you switch to canned only, I suggest you lower you dose back to 1 unit. Then increase it using the same method you used before to find her optimal doss.

Hi there! It's great that you're home testing. Could you set up a spreadsheet and enter some of that data so we can take a look and see what's going on? Dosing decisions for prozinc aren't based on just one number, so we need to see what you've been getting to help figure out what to do with that 220. :)

Here is the link to the spreadsheet we use: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/fdmb-spreadsheet-instructions.130337/

Once that gets set up we can help you sort this out. And if you have any trouble setting it up, just ask and someone can help you.
