Simba is having a hypo again. He got insulin 2.5 U Lantus at 10.10am. 7 hours later he was hypo at 5.10pm with only 0.9 mmol - 16!. After 40 ml dextrose and 1/4 can high carb k/d, 35 minutes later he was up to 2.8 mmol - 50.

How long does it take for the dextrose and food to kick in?

5.1 mmol -92 - 1 hour later. Given him 20 ml dextrose again.

Sounds like you've got him on the upswing? Are you doing okay?

    Now 2 hour later at 7.15pm, he was 24.4 - 439.

I hope that means he is out of the woods.

    Thanks Lu-Ann and Jeanne!

It's probably the middle of the night in Sweden... we may have to wait a while for an update. Hopefully no news is good news!

It would really help if you could set up a spreadsheet for Simba so his BG history is available to view. Here is the link to help you do it.

Unlikely that you would under these circumstances but just in case - don't forget to reduce his dose for his next shot.

I'm here. And so is Simba. Simba is doing fine. I reduced his night shot 10pm to 1 U. Yesterday he got 1 ½ U in the morning 10.30 am, and at +5.5 he was down to 5.6 - 101, and I thought he would go hypo again, but an hour later he was up to 10 - 180, and stayed there for a few hours, and by +12 at 10pm he was up to 24.4 - 439. Then I just gave him 1 U, as well as 1 U this morning at 10pm.

Akbahsmum, yes he did have symtoms when he was as low as 0.9 -16. He started twitching and shaking in the head and front paws. It happened in 2008 too, then he was so low as 0.8 - 14 with the same symptoms, only much worse.

He sure likes to give his mom scares, doesn't he? Well thankfully he came through this again.

I think you'll have to be very careful to make sure he eats during the day and when you increase dosages, it should be by shaving the dose rather than by quarters or halves.

I'm also glad that bleeding never came back. I wonder what that was about. Did the vet have any idea?
