My Gizmo, is an almost 10 year old Bombay, with Cushing's and uncontrollable blood sugars. His worst symptom by far is his skin fragility, he used to only have one large skin tear at time that would be repairable with sutures this is no longer the case. He currently has three large skin tears at separate sites that have tore close to the sutures that are not repairable. He is not in any apparent pain, he loves to go places in his soft carrier and for walks in his stroller. He wears his donut all the time now as him grooming can cause tears and due to him having to be shaved to be sutured he wears sweaters or t-shirts to cover his skin. He takes Vetoryl 10 mg twice daily at the advice of his Purdue Vet and 6 units of Lantus twice a day.

We have consulted with Purdue and an Endocrinologist at Michigan State. His tumor is in his pituitary and none of his specialists have recommended removal/radiation. His stim test showed control of his Cushing's yet his sugars are out of control, average 250, and nothing helps his skin. He went almost a year between large tears and is currently having one about every two weeks. Anyone else's cat have severe skin tears?

Hi Melissa, I saw your post and was reminded of a member here whose kitty did have skin tears, and he wore little onesies to help protect his skin. He was a Cushing's cat too, I believe. That member is Ana & Frosty (GA) and she still visits the board even though sweet Frosty passed away a few months ago.
She has said that she does get PM (private message or conversations) notifications via email if you wanted to talk with her about the skin tears.
I personally haven't had experience with Cushings, but I hope you get some input with your concerns and Gizmo's issues.
Hugs and lovies to you and your Gizmo, this is not an easy journey for either of you. :bighug::bighug:
