Hi again. Penny suddenly has low blood glucose numbers. I’d been aiming for her nadir to be near 100 but it has been in double digits for the last few days. She also hasn’t been completely eating her meals which is unusual, but she eats a lot (gets 3 cans FF =9 ounces) and she hasn’t lost or gained any weight. (She’s 11.2 lbs.) Her am pre-shot was 155 so we skipped the morning insulin but her pm pre-shot was even lower, 143. We checked it twice just to make sure (2nd reading was 140).

    Should we be worried?

    Thanks again.

No you should be happy! Why wouldn't you want low preshots?

I am happy! But surprised, would have expected improvement to be more gradual.and a little afraid I hurt her with low nadirs. I wasn’t aiming that low.

It went too low a few times but most of the time your aim was spot on.

Now since you are using a human meter you do want to get her under that 120 number. So when your preshot is over that let's try giving a VERY tiny dose. Like 0.25-0.5 just to get her to dip into the 70's and 80's. Only when you can monitor of course.

Yes, I would be happy too. If your kitteh stays in the 180-200 range, I probably wouldn't dose. If you do, then like Janet said, you need to monitor closely. Your kitteh might be going off the juice OTJ !! That would be great.

Let's try (when you can monitor

    120-150 0.25
    150-180 0.5
    180-210 0.75
    210-250 1

Penny’s been off insulin for a couple weeks ... hooray! She is very sensitive to the insulin; even small doses have a big impact, but without shots she’s between 57 and 185 from the Relion human meter.

I’ll continue to monitor her. For now she’s very happy.

    Thank you all!!

That is great news that Penny is OTJ (Off The Juice).

I recently spoke to my vet, who is a cat-only vet. She said there is a large percent of her diabetic patients (at least 25%) that get regulated on food change. Since a lot of cats are eating corn-based Friskies, the change to a low carb, high protein diet gets them off insulin injections.
