Treatment is usually in the form of a special diet and once or twice a day. The type of insulin used can be based on the cat's response to it. To the veterinarian will work closely with you and cat to help determine the correct insulin for cats. Sometimes oral medications can be used.

Low carb diets are needed but it doesn't have to be perscription. Most feed more than twice a day, but at minimum twice a day before insulin injection.

In our experience, the oral medicines are not helpful, instead give insulin.

Welcome... Most of the vets brands of “special diets” are too high in carbs. Fancy feast classics & friskies pates are lower. We do have an amazing carb chart here on the forum. It is at the top of the main forum, Dr Pierson’s chart!
