Those we love remain with us
    For love itself lives on,
    And cherished memories never fade
    Because a loved one's gone.
Those we love can never be
    More than a thought apart,
For as long as there is memory,
They'll live on in the heart.

    ((((((((((Joyce and Ken))))))))))

    wings_cat We celebrate your life!
    Fly forever free, beloved Tuscany...

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

    With my sincere condolences
    Linda and Bear Man

All thoughts and prayers are with you in the hour of sorrow
    Goodbye

With heavy hearts; and a tear in our eyes
after all these years; we must say goodbye
Please understand; we've done all we could
if there was anything we could do; you know we would

I'm sitting right here; gently rub your ears
while I talk to you softly; trying to hold back the tears
The memories you gave us; we'll never forget
especially the ones; of the day we all met

One last hug; and one last kiss
you have no idea; how much you'll be missed
To look into your eyes; this one last time
you tell me it's ok; you know it's your time

Close your eyes now; and go to sleep
we'll pray to the Lord; you're soul he'll keep
Go in peace now; our good friend
we'll stay right here with you; until the end

Dream of that special day and time
when we'll meet at the Bridge; and all will be fine
We'll run and play; side by side
with a soft warm feeling; deep down inside

Your memory will live on; in each one of us
you'll always be number 1; to all of us
Have a safe journey; through the night
I promise when you awake; you'll be in God's light

So with heavy hearts; and tears in our eyes
just for now my friend; we say goodbye.

    --John Quealy

Heidi the kittykat rottie will be there greet you.
Fly free sweet Tuscany. You will be missed.

    I Loved You Best

So this is where we part, My Friend,
and you'll run on, around the bend,
gone from sight, but not from mind,
new pleasures there you'll surely find.

I will go on, I'll find the strength,
life measures quality, not its length.
One long embrace before you leave,
share one last look, before I grieve.

There are others, that much is true,
but they be they, and they aren't you.
And I, fair, impartial, or so I thought,
will remember well all you've taught.

Your place I'll hold, you will be missed,
the fur I stroked, the nose I kissed.
And as you journey to your final rest,
take with you this...I loved you best.

    Dear Mom,

I’m just about to take a nap, for I’ve been running free.
I was chasing butterflies, and one small bumble bee.
I’ve rolled around in catnip, I’ve danced around a tree
And now I’ll rest all cuddled up with others just like me.

I’m in a truly lovely place, it’s right by Heaven’s gate.
I’m not alone, and I am told this is the place to wait.
I’ve told everyone about you, they said you won’t be late.
That though on earth long years will pass, I’ll meet you by the gate.

There’s a bridge we’ll cross together, it has a rainbow hue
And really it’s so pretty here, that all I miss is you.
So please don’t think about the things you did or didn’t do
It was my time to find the bridge, so please do not feel blue.

I’m sorry that I left so fast, without a kiss good-bye.
But I’ve enclosed a “head butt” and a slow blink of my eye.
Take care of all our family and tell them that I’ll try
To be the one that greets them first, when they come, by and by.

Love and thanks for being such a good mom,

    Your Tuscany

    Debie & Jezebel...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I was hoping to be earlier to this celebration but tbp intervened.

This is truly a celebration - albeit a celebration that comes with tears. Thank you for sharing Tuscany with us. I feel privileged have been able to share in a brief part of Tuscany’s life. I love thinking of her looking up from a dish of whipped cream and having to wash the good stuff off of her whiskers. Of being amazed that she would travel with you for evenings with friends or spend time on the boat out on the water. Or thinking of Tuscany as the mighty huntress out in the backyard hiding in the grass, the bushes, or the flowers. Or imagining her being velcroed to the rug under the kitchen table. She is clearly a kitty who loves her ‘nanners and her pheasant feathers. Hers is a life filled with the love of you and Ken and by all of us who have been able to share in your memories. And Tuscany clearly returned your love and devotion.

I hope that George and Gracie have found Tuscany so she knows that those who have gone ahead have been waiting for her to help ease her passage. I have no doubt they will join her in chasing butterflies, stalking grasshoppers, and basking in the warm sun and cool breezes -- and in finding any hidden stashes of whipped cream.

The celebratory lights from Lantus Land have graced her way to the Bridge. She is a part of us all and will live on forever. Fly free sweet girl.

(((Joyce))) I know you're probably either numb or overwhelmed with grief. it is clear from the stories and pictures that Tuscany knows she is loved, and loves you back ten fold. She'll be watching from the Bridge, and will wait patiently until you can be reunited. I'm sure Cosmo has conned her into letting him groom her head and all the other LL GA kitties will be very welcoming!!

It's quite hard to type through the tears that I am shedding. D, that was such a wonderful tribute to Tuscany and her life. What a beautiful girl, i especially liked the picture where she is surrounded by the lily's. And wow...a kitty that liked to sail. You can tell she liked it by the way she was sprawled out on deck!
Joyce and Ken, there is no doubt that Tuscany enjoyed every minute of her life because of the love that you guys gave her. I could actually see that in her eyes in every single picture. My deepest sympathies on the loss of your beautiful girl.

Ken and I came home tonight just before 5 - we were able to spend a good 45 minutes with Tuscany before our vet visit. She wasn't too interested in the fresh cat nip today but she chowed on some HC (a whole can that I put out - she licked all that juice), a bunch of temptations and of course, finally, some whipped cream. That's when her purr came on and she purred and purred so I emptied the whole can in front of her (wasn't much left anyways). She ate as much as she wanted - but couldn't finish her mountain of whipped. We took her to the vets sitting on her cat bed - she was very bright eyed in the car which made it hard to make the trip. Like, why are we doing this??? At the vets we laid her on her bed and gave her lots of love and whispers - and more treats at the vets. She was purring away and eating the treats while she was being injected. It was very quick and peaceful. And I am ok. Sad, tearful, but ok. We made the right decision - it may have been a day or week too early but it was ok now. She was ok with it. Maybe the ok was all the love that I knew was being sent to her from all of you - lighting her way to the Bridge.

Tuscany was wrapped in a piece of blanket that was originally a wedding gift to us. We had it on our bed for many many years - she slept on this blanket and sucked on this blanket in her younger years. Our first cat also was wrapped in part of this blanket when he went to the bridge. We tucked a well used 'nanner in her paws and a few more kittie treats. She will be cremated and the ashes returned to us.

When we left the vets - it had been gray and raining a good part of the day - the sun came out. It was like she had reached the Bridge and all the candles that were lit up brought the sun out. It was a peaceful feeling.

DH and I got a coffee and walked and sat in the local park for awhile. We went to dinner and sat in the far, dark corner so we could still talk, cry as needed. The internal clock of 8:30 shot time came and was noted. Sigh. I will not miss the shots and the strict time of the testing, shots. We will miss Tuscany.

Diahann - you did an awesome job on Tuscany's celebration. DH and I have watched it twice already - smiling and crying thru it. I am glad that you were able to use her purr. I also noted the small details like the sailboat being made of a banana. We can't thank you enough for doing this. After 2 yrs of DM, 18 months of that on insulin I really wanted Tuscany to have her OTJ party (even though it wasn't the usual way of going otj)- thank you all for coming to it , for celebrating her life and for carrying her to the bridge on your love and light.

I will miss our condo in FDMB - I hope to still be here to cheer and maybe help some of the other sugar cats. You all have been my life line in the last 2 years and my friends. I can't thank you enough for all the help especailly this summer after the paw alien proclaimed itself and took her from us.

Joyce, you let Tuscany escape the pain you knew was coming and while she could still look at you with clear eyes of love. It was much better this way than waiting too late and seeing her eyes clouded in pain. You gave her dignity and sweet hugs.... a gentle sleep as she drifted toward the bridge. And the sun coming out was her thank you to you and Ken.

I came home last night at 5:50. I lit all the candles around Latte's photos in various rooms. I knew our 6pm was maybe an hour later than your 6pm, but I still felt it to be important. I asked Latte with each candle I lit to make sure Tuscany would be safe and help her in any way she may need. There was a lot of thunder...loud thunder, while I was doing this. I ran outside to get something before the rain, but I was too late. I stood out there crying for a minute before I came in. The rain stopped for just a moment and I looked in the sky...there was the biggest rainbow I had ever seen. I think that may have meant Tuscany was ok.

I just wanted to share, as it was a very powerful moment, followed by an enormous amount of tears for your loss. May you continue to be blessed with the wonderful memories you have shared with us over time. And may your hearts continue to be filled with her love.

    (((((((((((joyce)))))))))))) (((((((((((((((((dh))))))))))))))))))))

Fly free sweet tuscany...may you visit your beans regularly!!!

Tuscany has been on my mind all day, and I feel compelled to share a poem. I grew up in the funeral business, as my dad is a funeral director. Constantly surrounded by the end of life and the grief of loved ones left behind, he knows of many sayings, scriptures and poems that he often shares to help comfort people in their grief. This is my favorite:

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side
spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and
starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty
and strength. I stand and watch her until at length
she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where
the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!"

    "Gone where?"

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in
mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and
she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her
    destined port.

Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the
moment when someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout: "Here she comes!"

    And that is dying.

    -Henry Van Dyke

I love the picture of others eagerly anticipating her arrival on the other side, shouting with joy that she has finally come. I know the poem is about people, but it doesn't matter. That's where your Tuscany is now...with others who are celebrating her arrival!

We went away this weekend and spent some time sailing. I keep thinking that Tuscany is home with the pet sitter. I think that this week will be a bit harder at home. I wont be able to avoid her spots now.

Ken and I have taken comfort in the many postings here. There are some beautiful poems that some have sent that are very touching. Thank you.

We brought Josie to the boat- her first time sailing. She was not impressed. I am not sure she will be the sailor that Tuscany was. Josie found some places to tuck herself in and hid.

I miss you all, too. I miss Tuscany. I am in avoidance mode - avoid the living room, avoid the cat bed, avoid, avoid. But doing better each day.

The ashes came back today. Always a very sad ending. They end up so small and light...... At least now, as opposed to 6 years ago when we lost Merlot, the ashes come back to you in a relatively attractive copperish canister with paw prints on it. Merlot was return to us in what we have called a "hot dog take out container". Sorry, if this is gruesome topic.

Josie at vet today - posted over in health. She didn't eat much on boat - didn't pee for at least 2 days and hasn't had bm since ?sunday pm. Vet said mild dehydration, no blockage. Was given fluids, appy stim, anal glands cleaned. She got home and peed and ate like a champ. She seems her usual self. Sadly, I think sailing was too much stress for her. Might try again next year - but not this season, what is left.

Guess I have to figure out how to add the GA to the sig line. Sigh.

Tuscany has been on my mind a lot this past week. She touched a lot of people...and she definitely left an imprint on my heart. I've been thinking about you, Joyce. Good to see you posting. Tuscany is/was a treasure. She's free of pain and running free now. I have no doubt she is still with you. Hugs...
