Well much to the surprise of the Vet, Fern's teeth were really bad. He got 5 removed and 2 more will be re-evaluated in 3 months to see if they recover or need to be removed. The vet was not expecting this or I think they would have made it a higher priority instead of "once he's stable" Fingers crossed this has a positive effect. He was high this morning in part because he was low last night and only got 1u instead of 2.5u. Actually per my vets instructions he would have been a no shoot last night as well but I was comfortable with the 1u.

His shot tonight was an hour late but I will just adjust it back to normal over several days because I didn't want another N/S.

My pet sitter did fire me today as well but she would not BG test. I have a new one set to visit on Sunday. Thanks to Yelp and the interwebs.

Fern is a trooper according to the vet, he was under Anastasia longer then they expected but he seems to be bouncing back. He ate all the Gravy from the HC wet I sent with him to the vet (he deserved it) and is now eating some of his new regular stuff. He did scare me when he decided to grab a drink from the auxiliary water bowl (toilet) while not quite steady on his feet yet.

Whew I bet you are glad that this dental is behind you. I always fret when they go to the vet but for the most part, all is better. Here's hoping for Fern feeling much better.

Good to hear that's over with and he seems to be recovering well

Hope you find a great petsitter!! If the one you're interviewing doesn't work out, doing a websearch for "Petsitters near (where you live)" should give you lots of others to look into

Yo Fern!!! Don't forget to put those toofs under your pillow....sounds like the toof fairy owes you big time!! ~ China

I've heard that your vet didn't want to do the dental because Fern's diabetes wasn't regulated. I have the same problem. How did you convince your vet to go through with the dental?

We did wait about a month. His numbers the last week while still higher then preferred but were steady. I don't think she was waiting for him to be completely regulated.

No he didn't which is why the vet people were so surprised. He didn't like people touching his mouth; but he never has so it wasn't abnormal.

Yes I would like to hear also. Vet doesn't want to do dental on Smokey because of age and diabetes. He does have gingivitis but they say that has improved lately. He doesn't seem to have any problems but I don't think he ever had any dental done.

My vet did want to do a dental just not immediately after diagnosis. I don't know if she had a lets have him on insulin for x number of days or what. I know she just didn't want to try surgery on him while he was in getting the keystones out of his blood or just after. I know they were not expecting the amount of damage that they found or they might have had him in sooner. My vet seems to be much better then average with diabetes but they are not perfect. I think by asking for the procedure they decided yes he is stable enough and boy am I glad I made the appointment.
