Hey all. Just looking for advice on helping my cat lose weight. Most of the information I can find online seems to indicate wet food is a better choice. Thoughts? Any brands you might reccomend?

Thanks

My 2 overweight cats lost weight when I switched to wet only. If you're looking for the most affordable, Friskies pates and Fancy Feast classics are the way to go.

Water increases the volume without increasing the calories, so wet food is more filling/satiating to the cat.
Also, feeding mini-meals will keep the cat from getting too hungry, which can lead to vomiting.

I have 6 cats, 2 of them are overweight, but have now both lost a pound or more since Mid January when I started the change over to Evo brand (12% carbs) dry food. My diabetic cat gets sick eating wet food and his numbers have steadily fallen to the point that he doesn't need insulin everyday anymore.

Some folks find 4 mini-meals per day works for the cat - feed at pre-shot, teed at +3 hours later.
Some find 6 mini-meals per day works. Ex: feed at pre-shot, feed at +3, feed at +5 hours later.
Some cats are grazers and will nibble on what is available all day.

You'll want to find what works for your cat.

My kitties are all fed twice daily, am and pm. Our work schedules wouldn't really allow anything else, my husband is along haul trucker and I'm a full time hairstylist. But yes, every cat is different and you'll need to try different things to see what works best for you and you kitty.
