Hi all,
I've posted here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=120049

But I guess I should introduce myself in this forum. I'm Heather, my cat is Gremlin.
I like photography, so I'm going to include some pictures of Gremlin and his family.

Gremlin is 14 years old, I'm 28. I've had him for half my life. He was born at my house.

I still have his mom (Midnight) and have one more (Stitch).

My mom took care of Gremlin after I grew up and moved out, at least for a little while, but she passed away in 2006, and I got him back.
He's very special to me, because of the connection to my mom, and because he is so very sweet. He's a Manx (no tail). He was the runt of the litter, with a tiny body, but huge eyes, and ears, hence his name, Gremlin.

He was diagnosed with diabetes in 2010, and he's been OTJ twice, once for almost 2 years, and once for 6 months. I know a lot about feline diabetes, but not nearly enough. He's been on Fancy Feast Classic, almost exclusively (except for a few eggs, chicken breasts, and sometimes wellness) since just a few days after I found out he was diabetic. He uses Lantus with Freestyle lite strips.

This past November, he had a stinky mouth, and his numbers were high, so I took him into the vet, and they gave him a antibiotics shot, and scheduled a cleaning/extraction. After the shot, his numbers went back to the normal range and he went OTJ again, I stopped testing for about a month at that time, because my Father in Law was dying from ALS and we were 300+ miles away a lot of the time. He has been fine without tests in the past when he went OTJ, but... he was not OTJ for long. He did have his cleaning/extractions (3 teeth pulled), and a month later I tested, and he was high again. Ever since then, things have been very wonky. He hasn't responded like he has in the past, I think I may have overshot and not tested at nadir as I should have, I've changed dosages too often. Now I am just trying to get him regulated, and a proper dose picked out.

That's Gremlin's diabetes story, hopefully I can get some good advice on what to do next.
I love my kitty!

Here is Gremlin's chart: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub ... utput=html

Hi Heather & Gremlin and welcome to FDMB. You are doing a great job managing Gremlin's diabetes with hometesting and diet. The only thing that I saw was that you kind of bounce around with the dose. You may want to try staying at the same dose for about a week to let Gremlin's body adjust to it before deciding you need to change it again. You could also check with the Lantus Tight Regulation board. They follow a stricter protocol with dosing and may also be able to help you. The link to that board is http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewforum.php?f=9

I love the pics of Gremlin. He is a very handsome boy. And a manx makes him even more special. I have two calico manxes, along with 5 other tailed cats.

Thanks! I have posted in that area earlier today.
I've looked at this message board before, but never posted, so I thought I'd Introduce myself.
I think I've finally figured out my signature now, now I need to figure out my avatar. It keeps saying it's too big, no matter how small I make it. :P

Welcome! How happy you look together. I'm very sorry to hear that you lost your mother at such a young age. You sound like you really have it together and I'm so pleased that you and Gremlin are tackling life as BFFs.

Warm regards

Gremlin is gorgeous.

I was quite a bit older than you when I lost my mum, but she was like my best friend. (I hate that it sounds like a cliche, but it's true). Luckily still have my dad who is in his 80's but amazing for his age.

I haven't had an easy life either, and cats seem to know when you're going through a rough time and love you unconditionally. I'm new to all of this, Angel was only diagnosed on 30th May, so still learning.

Cassandra (and Angel) x

Yeah, it was really hard. Still is. I'm not very close to my dad, so all I really have now is my husband, older brother, and a few good friends. It can be lonely and overwhelming, sometimes, but yes, animals do give a lot of comfort. :)
