Hi folks! Things have been going great for Tink over in Lantus Land. We've finally hit a dose where we're seeing lots of blue and green!

Of course, with that, comes the "too low" numbers. I grabbed some fancy feast, which he will eat - but it does seem to mess with his GI tract. He also doesn't care for anything but the chunked chicken. I usually feed Wellness, and would like to stick to a similar quality food. I'm thinking the new "Signature Selects" from Wellness will probably fit the bill - but I STILL cannot wrap my head around how to calculate carbs (math is NOT my strong suit).

Seems we dont go off the "as fed" nor the "dry matter" numbers (or if we do, the "under 8% carb list is incorrect as all 3 of my Wellness flavors are shown as 4% on that and different amounts in the email below, from Wellpet). So is there a way to take these numbers provided by Wellness and convert them to the carb #s we use here?

I've been using chicken & lobster as a mc option, which Tink loves. Someone here said that was 11%. Seems that although he's typically VERY carb sensitive... this doesn't apply when it NEEDS to (go figure). Anyway... just wondering what the real carb content of the Signature Selects would be. Particularly interested in THIS one (he likes chunked chicken varieties):

Signature Selects Chunky Turkey & White Meat Chicken Entrée in Sauce
    As Fed: 6.10%
    Dry Matter: 34.09%

But how can dry matter and as fed be SO different! Also looks like some of the Core varieties might be a good mc option?

I'd be very thankful to anyone that can help me make sense of this. I've looked at all the "how to calculate" stickys and I JUST dont get it.

Also thought this list might be useful for others, so including the whole thing.

I can't do the math either.... I just rely on the "most complete and update" food chart

    of the Merrick's....
the one that was updated..... Merrick Cowboy Cookout is 18-19% carbs phosphorus 294

all the new ones are higher than what we all feed our cats.

Unfortunately, that list doesn't include the newer Wellness lines. It is still very helpful though, and I've written down several hc/mc options on my regular lc food list.

I'm sure the Signature Selects ARE HC... but I want to know HOW HC, as I use different levels in different situations. I prefer to use mc when I can, since he IS so carb sensitive. I dont want to just blindly throw something hc at him without knowing if it's 18% or 30%.

I can't see a need to go over 18% though, and the list does give several options for that... so I'll just grab a few of those for now.
