FYI on Prozinc Shortage

Found this link on the DCIN page this morning. It appears the shortage is real and may last a while.
When somebody says "We expect supply levels to return to normal this fall".... I get concerned. That could be December.

I'm so screwed. I just got the LAST bottle at my vets office - no idea how long it will last me - EVERYONE is out. Just spoke to my Vet he says their supplier has given no indication this will be an issue but he admits to not being totally "In the loop" with the ordering since he has one of the Vet Tech's do it.
Just feeling a tad freaked out here.

so bought my last bottle June 16th... so bottles are lasting me about 5/6 weeks (I've probably got 3 days worth left) which means I'll run out of this bottle probably right BEFORE I'm in shape to start deciding if I can switch over to a different insulin. Called my House call Vet and she hooked me up thru a pharmacy in NYC who had 6 bottles left... So now I have one in my fridge and one being shipped to me over night on Tuesday which should take me to some time in October. WHEW... Thank you Carl (I am once again in your debt) for pointing this issue out. I urge everyone to call around and see if they can find some - it's evidently out there but not easily found.

fwiw, if anyone in southern california (orange county or within driving distance if you are willing to drive) needs any anytime soon, my vet has 2 bottles on hand that she said she needs to get rid of (she uses lantus and a drug rep gave these to them or something like that). she couldn't just give it out freely without seeing the cat obviously but she said she could work with your vet and their prescription so that it be dispensed properly. it bugs her to think another vet would mark it up and make a profit on it but that would be between 2 vets if you ask me

my timing was really off today! Noticed that my neighbor's ProZinc expired in June! So this afternoon, I got a script & picked up some Levemir for Little One! Decided to keep the rest of my ProZinc (exp. Nov. 2012!!!) for Pudge, in case his remission goes wonky. Procrastination would have been very useful today! I don't know of anyone else in So. Cal who uses it, but will let my vet's office know. How kind of you to let us know & what a great vet you have!
