Went over to Jo's to catch some mid-cycle tests and help de-mat him a bit. He is more active than previously and came over to check me out when I came in.

He has gained weight and is now 7.6 lb! Yay for weight gain. Still needs another 4-5 minimum, I think. Jo is feeding 4 cans of Fancy Feast a day and leaves out some Wellness original dry, which he barely touches. The diarrhea is better, but still occurring. May need to throw in some fiber to manage. He's making it all the way to the litterbox more often.

And then I tested him. Keep in mind she's been shooting this over 2 weeks and we're using a One Touch Ultra mini.

Jo gave 1.5ish units of Lantus about 8:30 this morning.
+6 (2:38 pm) 31 mg/dl; put down new can of FF (dry was down; he wasn't eating it) He ate about half.
+7.5 (4:05) 34 he ate some more after testing

Seems to be doing OK and eating to accommodate his glucose levels. Purring, some preening, and some play!!!

Obviously backing off dose to 1ish! Brought syringes w/ 1 unit marks to use, which should help (Thanks Venita!)

Got a lot of mats off; he may need to be shaved.

Yeah on the dose reduction for Dusty!!!!! :RAHCAT

Sounds like his health is looking up and he is slowly improving.

On the hair mats, maybe take a pair of blunt nose scissors and gently cut apart the mat, and then tease it out with a wide tooth comb. I've done that before with a couple of my longer haired kitties.

I used a bladed mat cutter - like a wide toothed comb where the teeth are deeper and have an edge. I kept my fingers between the skin and the tool to reduce pulling on the skin. Most of his belly, neck, and shoulders are OK. I made some progress on the haunches.

I showed Jo the tool and explained how to use it, but suggested he may need a shave down at the vet. She has arthritis, so her hands are painful and stiff, which makes it difficult to do anything besides simple combing. I didn't leave mine there is my civvie Precious needs a few mats removed from her cotton wool fur (mats if you look at it crosswise!) There is a Pet People store across from her grocery which may carry them.

I'll go back in 3 weeks, after the reunion in PA.
