Re: Ozy PMPS-184 Dosing advice needed... stalling

We really don't have any control over when our kitties decide to have green numbers.

You've shot a 195. Your PMPS is pretty much the same number. If it were me, I'd shoot. You will need to do some monitoring (but you should be getting spot checks every night, anyway).

Okay... I still feel newbie-ish. I guess I need to become more of a night owl.

thanks, Sienne, I did it.

I'd much rather he be green in the daytime and not late at night. How do I make that happen?

How I wish!! 8 out of the last 10 nights I have been keeping an eye on diving greens! There are a lot of sleep-deprived beans in LL . . . but cats do what cats want to do. And I guess in the end it's better they do it while we are home than when those of us that work have to be out of the house during the day! We just all need to learn to take "cat naps" in between the testing

Good job shooting at a little lower number than you were used to. It looks like I'm going to be up for a while tonight so I'l look in a bit later to see how you and Ozy are doing.

I am happy to hear that, Amy. Thank you. He felt so great when he went green the other night. Is that typical?

Question: is there a time table for low numbers and when to give food? When he went green early in the cycle @+2 (two nights ago), I was advised to give him some medium carb food.

Great job tonight! For some reason, cats often like to go lower at night and so, as Amy said, many of us are sleep deprived.

If numbers drop quickly from PS to +2, you want to feed the drop to slow it down. Many members feed on a schedule at PS, +1, +2, +3 but Ozy might not need that kind of feeding schedule. Many others here just free feed. Because every cat is different (ECID), you have to figure out what works for Ozy.

For now, if he drops early in the cycle, I'd feed when he is dropping. Keep in mind the higher he is, the bigger the drop you could potentially see. For example, some cats are 400 at PS and 200 at +2. But if you start at 150, he doesn't have 200 to drop, right? So it's all relative.

The other thing is being able to tell a dropping number from a second Lantus dip.

A dropping number is usually seen when the PS is the highest number of the day and the BG drops all the way to the next PS. Shooting dropping numbers can allow you to take advantage of carryover and overlap but it's a good idea to get some help if you are shooting a lower dropping numbe.

A second Lantus dip is what you saw today. His BG came down, he nadired at 167, came back up to 202 and then dipped again at PMPS. These are generally safe to shoot without stalling but any time you shoot green for the first time, you probably want to get some help. On a second dip, it does not usually go lower than the nadir.

Papaya seems to save sleeping with her tummy up and her back feet propped up on something for when she's feeling good & in low numbers! I'm always glad when I see her in her "happy sleeping pose" because it seems to reflect good numbers! She's also a lot more alert and playful (in between tummy-up naps) when her numbers are good, so yes I would say you will probably be able to see Ozy feeling better along with the good numbers. That's why you'll see people mentioning "the whole cat report" because things like grooming, playing and purring are indicators of how well the cat is feeling along with the blood sugar test numbers.
