In case of outages - Facebook group

Yesterday the board was down all day and we are all thankful its back up again.

In its absence many of us were using this facebook group. This group is active all the time but it will be useful for communicating during board outages too so you might want to bookmark it!

Thanks, Wendy. I didn't know if we were allowed to put that in here. I was worried about newbies needing help, and not knowing to go to FB :smile:

I think it's a nice back=up for when the board is down. We need to make sure our newbies have a place to go for help when they need it. Thanks for posting this Wendy.

Maybe with FaceBook it is no longer relevant. However, there are some of us who, for various reasons, do not want to join FaceBook.

FaceBook definitely isn't for everyone one, but one thing I've seen others do is basically join FB under your kitty's name (somewhat of an alias). You could do this for the sole purpose of participating in either LantusLand or the FB FD group.

This sort of thing is really particularly relevant for newer folks (or even older folks) who may need advice when the board is down. It was a little scary yesterday to hear that the board may be down for a few days, what with all the new folks who have recently joined us. Even though it is far from ideal, since FaceBook is so heavily used, it is a good place to redirect people to when the potential for a large/long board outage happens.

I think we need to be careful about directing people to many different places - the danger is that newbies etc will go there expecting help and there may not be many eyes on them a lot of the time.

This board should continue to be the main way to communicate and then the others as emergency use when this board is down.

Yep. hate facebook. I quit it over a year ago/closed acct and of course, everything is still there just like it was when I left. It's like my info is carved in stone now.....
guess I can go close it again until the next emergency.

You are absolutely, Wendy....this should always be the go-to place for advice. We need everything in one place, so everyone else knows what is going on. But since the board has been shaky lately, we do need an emergency back-up for use only when the board is down.
