Hi LL!

Not sure if Onyx is headed into the greens today or not, but her numbers are starting out just like they did 2 days ago when she dipped down. We shall see. Since she's on a .5 dose less, I won't worry as much if she does.

We've got our first vet appointment (since dx) this afternoon, so we'll see what he says about how we've handled her dosing, which differed from his instructions. She's also really digging at her stomach this morning, so hopefully he'll give her something so she'll leave it alone. He mentioned a steroid last time, but I won't let him give her one. It certainly didn't help when he gave it to her in June, and I don't want it messing with her insulin now that we're getting somewhere.

Oh, and her blood ketones were LO (below .1 according to the Nova Max box). YAY!!!! I was getting really nervous with all those .6 readings.

I'll check back later. Hope everyone is having a good day.

Hi Brandi--judging by a 100 point drop in just 2 hours, my guess is a big "yes" that she may just "go green" And she cleared her bounce nicely! I'd get a +4, to be sure, for starters...though cats are cats, so who knows what's she has in store for you...are you going to get a blood panel done? Maybe not necessary, but "back in the day" when Gobbles was FD, I got them done pretty often... and got copies so I could start keeping track of his labs on his SS... Is there something on her belly, that she's digging at? And woo-hoo on her lack of ketones!!! Yeah for Onyx! ***Be sure to bring your gluco-monster and testing supplies, then test Onyx' BG in the office*** Let us know what the vet says/does

Re: 8/13 Onyx - AMPS 267, +2 167

Great minds think alike, Kat...I've got my kit all ready to go with me. I'm going to test at the same time they do; really curious to see how much they differ.

Since I'll be going to the vet in the middle of her drop cycle, I'll check once an hour until we leave. She's now 123, so down we go!
I'm not having him do a full blood panel, as she just had one a month ago and it was really hard on her. But I'm sure I will in a few months. Luckily, the ONLY test that had off numbers, was her BG. And I was already planning to get a copy of those tests so I can put them on her SS. I'm also taking her SS with me. I can't wait for him to see just how much this new catfood is helping her numbers, especially when he told me not to even worry about trying to change her food for a while. He said if I couldn't ever get her to eat wetfood, not to worry about it.

As far as her stomach goes, she gets REALLY itchy and pulls her hair out in clumps. BIG CLUMPS. Most of her abdomen is bald now. She's been chewing at it so much, she's got little scabs now. Bad thing is, this whole thing is why I took her to the vet 2 months ago. 3 visits later, we find out she has FD. But all he did was give her a steroid initially. It did nothing, so he said it must be a flea allergy, eventhough she's an indoor cat. Well a month now on frontline, she's STILL digging like mad. I've been trying all kinds of things on it, but it's always a temporary fix. She has EXTREMELY dry skin, so I'm hoping it's just from the FD, as I've learned it can be a symptom. So hopefully it will get better, as she does, along with the food change. Sure hope so. She looks so silly with her 1/2 bald tail!

Re: 8/13 Onyx - AMPS 267, +2 167

Gobbles had dry skin, lackluster fur and his belly fur (along with flank) was thinning, when he was diagnosed...he really didn't start looking "better" until about 3-4 months after his dx. He gradually got glossier hair (maybe he had Argan Oil stashed somewhere) and his belly fur grew back. It sounds to me like Onyx' belly must be itching her terribly. I wonder if there's something you can rub on it? Some sort of vitamin or maybe coconut oil? Don't take that to the bank, though, as I was just thinking outside the box. Also, Gobbles has flea allergies (got a Depo shot in September (and perfect senior profile) then FD dx in November--go figure) and the only thing that works on him is Advantage II--which I give about every 3.5 weeks...

Onyx's hair has been rather ratty for a while as well. I'm really hoping this food helps. Oddyly enough, I've rubbed coconut oil on it a few times, hoping it would moisturize it and prevent the itching. Seemed to helped. Vet said he thinks I should keep doing it. He thinks there's a huge likelihood it's stress related. Suggested a de-stressing color with pheramones. Could also be an allergy to the Catlax she started taking RIGHT before these symptoms started. If not, he said we'd try antihistamines or cyclosporine. But considering how much Klepto does stress her out, I'm really hoping the stress collar works. Though I'm sure she'll hate wearing it of course...lol.

All-in-all, he was very happy with where she's at right now. While there, my meter was 140 and his was 178. He was very supportive of the food, especially when he saw how it's changing her numbers. He thinks I just might see remission in the near future. WOO HOO that would awesome!!! And she's gained back 4 oz. since her diagnosis, but that might change from the food as well.

A good day!!!!

Nice vetty report! Thanks for the update.

Nice to hear your vet thinks remission is possible. We'll certainly try to help you get Onyx to remission. She has a ways to go, but has been in some nice healing blue numbers today.

Sending no more itches vines to Onyx.

Thanks, Deb.

She had a VERY good day. I'm hoping for many more days of healing blues this week.

I think your vines helped, because she is passed out cold on the bathroom floor. No digging and scratching at least for a few hours.
