8/25 update:
Just wanted to post a quick update.

Jupiter is still doing a pretty good job leaving his bandage alone without his cone on.

His appy has been really poor today and yesterday.

Yesterday he kept laying back in the litter box room... this isnt normal... he usually only lays there when he has diarrhea. He had a very large poo yesterday and it smelled terrible (much much worse then normal!) but Dane said it didnt really look like diarrhea just a softer poo.

Gave him a little forti flora on some baby food last night and also gave him a pearl probitiotic. Maybe hes belly aching from when he was on the AB's? Hoping the probiotics help a bit going to give him another dose today. Hes hiding a lot more again... and he had stopped doing this for a couple days... He seems to hide a lot lot more when hes not feeling so well. Hope my baby Jupe is feeling better soon.

Hope you all have a great day and I will be back later to visit some condos. :-D

Edited to add:
8/26 Update:
Jupiter is going to his regular vet tomorrow for his weekly wound checkup. I dont feel like it made much progress this week but we will see what vet says tomorrow. I think we may have even lost some progress.

Jupiter also has some sores on his leg from the sticky tape from the other vet. He ripped it off the other day and it ripped his fur and now the sores look bad. I am really hoping he wont have to go back on a antibiotic again. I dont think we will be able to use the sticky tape anymore so most likely back to the cone for Jupiter. I dont even know if his vet is going to want to put any tape at the top of it cause the sores dont look too good.

Re: 8/25 Jupiter - update

YEAH for a cone-less Jupe!! That has to be a big weight off your shoulders at least..knowing you don't have to chase after him day and night to make sure he's not chewing on his bandage

Sorry he's acting like he doesn't feel well. Hopefully once he gets more of the probiotic into him and the antibiotic leaves his system, his tummy and poo will settle back down to normal.

Sending big appy vines to Jupe...come on Jupe..eat a little more of your fuds for your mommabean!!

Re: 8/25 Jupiter - update

Sending tons of vines for Jupie. Those ABs can really mess with the digestion, hope he gets done with them soon.

Re: 8/25 Jupiter - update

Hes been done with the ABs for 10 days now... thats why im not sure if they could possibly be causing this? He did get a few doses of probiotics when he was on the ABs and when he was done with them I didnt think he needed the probiotics so didnt give them. I will keep giving the probiotics for a few days and his vet appt for his weekly wound checkup is on tuesday so if he is still acting like he doesnt feel well, I will be sure to mention it to his vet.

Thank you for the visits and vines for Jupiter

Re: 8/25 Jupiter - update

Sending happy tummy vines to Jupiter. I hope he gets over the grumblies soon and has a good vetty visit.

Re: 8/25 Jupiter - update

We got good news and not so good news.....sigh....

thrilled that he is keeping the bandage on. Now what to do about the appy and tummy.... maybe sending good appy vines will help.

Re: 8/25 Jupiter - update

It's good to hear Jupiter is leaving the bandage alone, but I'm sorry his tummy is bothering him. Sending prayers he'll feel better soon.

Re: 8/25 Jupiter - update

The FortiFlora (enterococcus faecium) contains a completely different probiotic than the Pearls. You might alternate, as GI bacteria can be quite diverse.

Re: 8/25 Jupiter - update

Hi Jamie,
It's really great news Jupiter is leaving his bandage alone.
Good job, Jupe!
I hope his appetite will improve soon.

Jupiter is going to his regular vet tomorrow for his weekly wound checkup. I dont feel like it made much progress this week but we will see what vet says tomorrow. I think we may have even lost some progress.

Thank you all so much for the visits, vines, and good thoughts.

eta: oh and he seems to be feeling a bit better today too although appy is still pretty poor

Sorry to hear about the sores....maybe now that he's not biting/chewing at the bandage, the vet will be able to cover it and not use the really sticky stuff..and Jupe will still leave it alone without the cone.

Sending good appy and vetty vines, and will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Hi Jaime,

Sure am glad Jupe's feeling better after a rough couple of days. Is this regular vet the NEW regular vet??? I was out of the loop for about a week, sorry.

Also great to hear he's leaving his bandage on - bummer about the sticky tape, tho'. Would some neosporin-type AB ointment help the sores or would he just lick that off?

Good luck at the vet's tomorrow, hope you get a good report, and also good luck with the appy. Am sending healing, appy, & good, solid poopy vines right now!

Just got home from the vet. Unfortunately no progress was made this week. Last tuesday after it was wrapped at the vets, i forgot to put the yuk gel on (i normally do this right after bandage change and as long as I apply a whole whole bunch of it he leaves it alone and I dont have to reapply) so when i woke up wednesday morning the bandage was off and the wound looked much wider then the day before. so we lost a lot of progress and now we are back to where it was last week.

I will post a more thorough update later. Thank you all for the visits

the good news: his appy started to improve last night and while his appy is still pretty poor it is still continuing to improve today

Jamie, I'm sorry to hear about the lost progress with Jupe's wound. But - at least you know the source of the problem & (good news here) it's fixable, yes? Yuk gel - come on, Jupe, get with the program, you know Mama bean wants you to keep that bandage on!

Glad to hear Jupe's appetite is back - that's going to help his healing, too!

Sending you support, healing, and STRONG bandage vines! Thanks for the update - keep them coming!

Actually, as quickly as that wound has been healing, I wouldn't beat yourself up over the fact that it doesn't look like any progress was made in the past week. For a wound that ugly to heal the way it has so far is nothing short of miraculous, and it was bound to slow down some eventually. Hopefully Jupe will be a good boy and leave it alone, as well as eat more for you so he can continue to heal!

You have really done an amazing job with him, so don't feel badly..He's come such a long way from just a few weeks ago!!

The vet said if it doesnt improve at all this week, he will have to sedate Jupiter and remove the tissue thats not healing....

I think that will set us back even more .... so I am really hoping it heals this week

I am going to start a new condo in a little bit and explain all the details but wanted to give a quick update for now

thank you both

It sounds like Jupiter needs to wear that cone for one week straight (no taking it off) for that wound to heal up. That's what I would do at least. Explain to him that it's for his own good.

Jupe's been chewing at his sore paw,
causing endless worry to his poor maw,
he needs to take a break,
no more biting, to make
his foot all better,
follow the vet instructions to the letter.
