:o last condo

Good morning LL! Can't believe it's September!! Christmas is coming! :o

I hope everyone is doing well. I need to catch up on condos. I didn't sign on this weekend - there was just alot going on and to be quite honest, I'm just frustrated with Bob's crazy numbers. I feel like I am failing him somehow - that I should have been able to convert him to wet food. He's doing such a good job eating it now, but I know if I took away his dry, we'd go back to the same misery as before. He eats a little dry and then goes over to the wet and eats some of that. He does look better and he's definitely not dehydrated. He loves to drink the water out of the wet food.

Not sure what went on yesterday with the blues. I think he may not have eaten much. I checked him at 12:30am and he was in the blues and then checked him at 2:30am and he was over 500 - yikes! I think it was a mixture of bouncing and him eating a little of the dry that was leftover from his feeding at 7:00pm. Does anyone know how long it takes for dry food to show up in their blood sugar?

I hope everyone has a great day! :-D

Re: 9/3 Bob AMPS=441

I hope your weekend was good as well as busy. Not sure on the dry food and I suppose that ECID too. It takes longer than we, which is why we don't use it in low BG situation, but just how long?…………

I usually try to check at least an hour if not more since Tess has eaten for routine spot checks to avoid as much food influence as possible.

Dara, don't beat yourself up. You're doing your best for Bob. Some cats are really difficult to get switched from dry food to wet food. If you want to try again, you could slowly decrease the amount of dry food and increase the amount of wet food and see if he'll eat more wet food. The most important thing is that he is eating consistently.

Hi Dara,

Christmas is coming!!!!!???!!!! Maybe you will get an early gift from Bob, and one day soon he will choose to snub the dry food and like wet best! You have done everything you can to help him choose wet, so don't beat yourself up over it. I like to hear that he is looking better, and hopefully acting better.

Just a FYI- someone over on the Health Board posted about a food that is only 2% carbs. It is called Wild Callings, and they offer rabbit, pheasant, chicken, etc. I called their number today to find out about phosphorus levels, and all were good for CKD kitties (except for buffalo!) It is canned food, but you can order one can at a time from an online store called Natural Pet Marketplace,$1.79 a can, free shipping up to 10lbs. I just ordered the rabbit and pheasant and even if Cleo doesn't like it I haven't wasted money on a whole case!!! We are still struggling with finding LC/L phos foods that she likes. Wish I could just go back to FF.

Have a good night!

Jane

I'm putting on my Acme hat .....

He loves to drink the water out of the wet food.

Perhaps this is your key. He drinks the water out.... eats a bit....
you add more water and repeat the cycle....
re-newed interest... and baby steps...

maybe hold out a little longer with the dry... another half hour or more... and just offer it by sprinkling on the wet.... and limit the amount of dry while offering the wet....
(okay bob, just a teaspoon... but here's all the wet you want)

and
Does anyone know how long it takes for dry food to show up in their blood sugar?

I think it comes on within the hour but then the problem is it stays a lot longer..... because it's metabolized differently....
Someone gave me a decent explanation once ....I'll look and see if it's still in my inbox.. ( altho' unlikely but I can pm the person and get her to re-tell it)
