Good morning, LL ☼ ~O)
Sending healing vines to Jupe and Angela's civvie Shadow and all others in need today :YMHUG: .
Thanks for the visits last night, Amy and Libby (Libby helped me during Ripley's very first PJ party ~ she and Hershey stayed up into the wee hours of the morning with me while I freaked out.)

Ripley is having an ideal Ripley-morning: she went btb with me for a couple of hours (we both got caught up on sleep ~ how wonderful is that!), and is now basking in the backyard.

I just did some pricing on Lantus (pens), as we are almost due for a refill (got 5 pens way back in January at Costco for about $250);
current pricing (for 5 pens):
Costco: $306
Target: $335 (sells individual pens for $68)
local mom&pop pharmacy: $370

Crazy how expensive it is.

I may have to cut back Ripley's budget for her Fall Hat Collection...

Re: 9/15 Ripley AMPS 95, +4 85

Hello! Glad to hear things are well. :-D Do you know anyone in Canada? I hear the price for Lantus is much better there!!!

Re: 9/15 Ripley AMPS 95, +4 85

Nice start today for Ripley. It's ridiculous how much insulin keeps going up.

Re: 9/15 Ripley AMPS 95, +4 85, +6 88, +9 85

HiJosie. Congratulations to Ripley on her first PJ party and she was the perfect host keeping her numbers out of the danger zone.

Have a great evening Josie.

Hi, Josie,
Ripley's looking G.R.E.A.T!!!
Yes, in Canada, Lantus costs about $100 for 5 cartridges.
But I think test strips and syringes are more expensive in Canada as there are no variety such as Walmart brand.
It's too bad Lantus doesn't transport well, or I can ship it to you....

Re: 9/15 Ripley AMPS 95, +4 85, +6 88, +9 85

HI Josie......what a fantastic day for Ripley  Hope you get to sleep tonight. :-D

Last I paid for 5 lev pens, was $265, and I couldn't get them as singles.

Re: 9/15 Ripley AMPS 95, +4 85, +6 88, +9 85

Hi Josie,
If you plan to visit Canada, you should buy some Lantus there. You don't need a prescription. Time was when we could order (with a prescription) from the online Canadian pharmacies, but a new Canadian law now prohibits shipping medications that need refrigeration. There is a long thread (going back several years) on this topic--Insulin from Canadian pharmacies--in the Health Forum. Apparently it is still possible to get insulin from Turkey through some Canadian pharmacies. Check out the following: the long thread about insulin from Canadian online pharmacies: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=49608
And the most recent discussion, in which Phoebe relates that she got insulin from Turkey: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=103503#p1101801

It may not be practical, but it is certainly less expensive!

Ripley is looking great today,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 9/15 Ripley PMPS 118

Today so far:
AMPS: 95
+4: 85
+6: 88
+9: 85
PMPS: 118

Ripley had a great afternoon: slept, and even got a tiny bit more backyard-basking time (only a few minutes, though ~ I didn't want her to get overheated.)

Thanks for all of the visits today!
Oops, John, I should've clarified that Ripley's very first PJ party (the one that Libby helped out with) was waaaay back in November, when Ripley was first diagnosed with FD. So whenever there's a visit from Libby, I feel sentimentally glad to see her :-D .

It's been a while since Ripley has hosted a PJ party (anti-jinx); when I look back on those first few weeks after dx, I think of myself as a scared little girl ~ I was in shock and so sad and lost, and thought it was going to be Ripley's last few weeks with me (thanks to the vet who let me know that FD was basically a death-sentence  ). I'm no expert by any means, and my FD confidence sometimes wanes, but I was told by many that it would get easier; they were right! :-D TGFDMB. (Thank Goodness for the FDMB! ♥)

Re: 9/15 Ripley PMPS 118

Hi Josie :-D

Nice day for Ripley!

I am taken back by the price of Lantus now. I had just bought a 5 pen pack just before Mannie crossed to the Bridge. I think it was $250 then. It is hard to believe that it has gone up that much in few short months.... wow! LOL on Ripley's fall hat collection.

Enjoy your evening.

Thanks for the thread links, Ella ~ I have to admit that reading through them made me feel :dizcat .
It sounds like many online Canadian pharmacies ship their insulin from Turkey or India ~ makes me a little nervous about shipping. Still going to do more research, but I may just get a single pen from Target for now, esp. with the holidays coming up...

Lara, that pic made me laugh! I know! The horror! Poor Ripley will have to recycle her hatwear from the Spring 2013 collection...

Ni ni, LL! Thanks for ALL of the visits today :-D

Or she could just continue to wear toilet paper roll rings on her ears

Ok...I have your solution. Switch to lev. I just paid $220 for five pens at Costco. And I was in sticker shock because the last time I bought some last dec, they were $195.
