Good morning LL!

Sorry for the long rant -- I talked to the vet yesterday. When I filled Tarragon's prednisolone two weeks ago, I had to have it filled at Walgreens due to new restrictions on the vet offices in Oklahoma. They gave me prednisone and not prednisolone. I talked to the vet about that since that is about the time Tarragon's asthma got worse. Prednisone and prednisolone are kind of the same thing. Prednisone is broken down by the liver and turns into prednisolone. That is not a problem in humans (other than those with liver problems), but cats have a harder time breaking it down. Prednisolone is harder to find, with some sources saying it isn't being produced anymore. Our vet is trying very hard to find the prednisolone for T. For now, we have agreed that we have to get the inflammation in T's airways under control so we have upped his prednisone again to 10 mg twice a day. I will have to be super vigilant on his BG's and have upped his insulin dose by another .25U for now. Paws crossed that this does the trick. The vet did stress that asthma gets worse over time and T has had it for 8 years so it could just be the progression of the condition. Poor Tarragon is so uncomfortable and coughs if you pick him up or he moves too quickly. It is so hard to see him have such a hard time breathing and my heart is breaking. He is, of course, sweeter than ever in spite of it all. What a trooper.

Thanks for the thoughts for DH. He is headed home tomorrow and is anxious to be back. It was a long trip.

Have a great Wednesday!

Re: 9/18 Tarragon AMPS 201

I don't blame you for ranting. How can the pharmacies take such things as this lightly?? Why is the prednisolone harder to find? This just really sucks, and I bet you're right...that is the connection with T's increased coughing. Sending many prayers your way....

Morning Melissa ~O) ~O) ~O)

A nice start for tarragon today. almost blue! Surf well today Mr T!

oh my on the rest. That was an interesting read for me, learn something new everyday, as it is something I have not had to deal with. I hope the course chosen will help him. paws crossed! Good luck with the BG's too. Cats are so great. No matter how they feel they keep on being who they are. That so reminds me of Mannie. I hope Mr T starts to feel better soon. Hugs!

Have a great day today. :-D

Re: 9/18 Tarragon AMPS 201

I'm so sorry about the meds frustration. I hope your vet is able to find prednisolone very soon.
Sending many vines to T today! ♥♥

Re: 9/18 Tarragon AMPS 201

Have you tried the mask and albuterol, they had given that to Lucky for his asthma, it really seemed to pull him out of this, maybe that would be easier on T the vet told me that Pred was not a great drug on kitties but this was years ago now. Just a thought. I hope T gets to feeling better

Re: 9/18 Tarragon AMPS 201

Hi Melissa. So sorry that Tarragon's asthma is bothering him so much. I wasn't aware of the difference between prednisone and prednisolone. I hope the prednisone works for him and that your vet can find a supplier for the prednisolone. God luck with the dosecrease.

Glad DH is feeling better and able to take the trip to see relatives and old friends. Have a great day Melissa.

Re: 9/18 Tarragon AMPS 201

Tarragon also gets Albuterol and Flovent twice a day using an Aerokat in addition to the pred. He just has hard core asthma.

Re: 9/18 Tarragon AMPS 201

Hi Melissa,

Hope Tarragon is breathing easier by now. I learn so much from this board. I hope your vet is able to locate the prednisolone - every little bit helps if it makes life easier for our furbabies. Safe travels for DH!

I'm sorry to hear about the problem with the meds. I hope you can get some Prednisolone soon and Tarragon starts breathing easier. Sending prayers for Tarragon and safe travels for your DH.

A few coughs tonight but seems to be settled down after a couple of breathing treatments. Thank you all for the vines. We really appreciate it! Love you all.

Hi Melissa,
Bummer about the scarcity of prednisolone. I Hope your vet can manage to find some for Tarragon. Continuing to send good-breathing and no-coughing vines.

Hugs and scritches, glad your DH will be home soon,

Ella & Rusty

Hey Buddy, I'm glad you're feeling some better tonight. Breathe easy, my pal,
~ Rusty

I'm sorry to hear your having issues with finding the right meds. Very irritating. Glad to hear he's a bit better tonight. Hope he continues to feel better and hope the increase in pred. & insulin have the right results for him. Safe travels for DH and sleep well, Melissa.
