Came home from work to find Pixie laying on the rug. He usually greets me and
begs for food.
Tried to feed him and he wouldn't budge.
I lifted him up to try to get him moving and he wouldn't.
His BG was 141 on Reli-On Prime (what i always use) and 164 on Accucheck.

He wouldn't be acting like this because of a small BG spike like this, would he?
Only other new things going on is I sprayed Feliway the other day and we have a new kitten.
Headed to the vets in 1 hour.

This is his day 14 of OTJ trial.

Any chance of getting a ketone test?

He also could be pissed about the kitten. It's good you're getting him checked out.

Do you worry about keytones with a low BG?
I don't think he would ever be pissed enough not to eat.
He was actually doing better with the kitten this am. More curious.

Oh and two more questions... How were his kidney values (BUN and creatinine) the last time he had a blood test ? Sometimes kidney problem symptoms can hit suddenly... If its a kidney problem of course.
And has the new kitten been checked by a vet (for diseases that could be transmissible)?
*** make sure you empty and check the litter box for any sign of urinary blockage, diarrhea ou constipation.

Was the kitten isolated until seen by the vet? Did the kitten have any illness when arriving at the home?

Hi Lauri, I hope the vetty visit goes good. Maybe just an under the weather day. I hope Pixie is back to normal when you get back home.

Have a good day!

Kitten was vet checked before coming home with us.
Emmie's not terrorizing Pixie....she walks up to Pixie, Pixie hisses, She happily prances away.

When we got home from the vet, Pixie did eat a little bit and his BG was 95.
He also started grooming himself....good sign.

He was growling and hissing at the vet.

Vet thought his ears were a bit warm, but temp was normal.
This has happened once before where he spiked a fever (virus) and needed meds to bring it down and was fine.
If he is still not eating tomorrow and lethargic i will go back and get some blood drawn.

Also noticed an increased number of hairballs lately???
He never had them when on his old IAMS.
Maybe his digestive system is a bit upset.

Going to keep a close eye on him and head back tomorrow if I don't see much of an improvement.

I sure am glad it's not his BG.

Lauri,
I hope you got some answers at the vet today.
Sending feel better vines to Pixie and hope he gets to go the Falls feeling GREAT

Pixie jumped off my bed at 2am when the alarm went off to eat and I thought "Great!"
But when I woke this am I noticed he just ate a little bit.
This am, he ate nothing.
Was able to get a BG of 190.
Noticed some diarrhea he had last night that was dark...almost blackish.
Pretty sure we will be headed back to the vets today.
The FF does give him diarrhea and I usually give pumpkin. Haven't done pumpkin in awhile because
everything looked fine. Up until today.
Also noticed a big hairball.

I hope it was just getting rid of that big hairball that made him feel off.
Sending better appetite vines to Pixie.

Just an update that Pixie ate a little bit this am. About 1/4 can FF w/pumpkin. Not much.
Not sure if I should just wait this out a bit more....see if he bounces back.

If this were my kitty, I'd be getting to the vet. Pixie's numbers have been wonderful. The 190 is telling you that something is "off." BG often goes up when a cat isn't feeling well. It may be worth having the vet get a Snap fPL or Spec fPL -- these are tests for pancreatitis. And do test for ketones just as a precaution. They can develop with lower numbers -- it's far less likely but it can happen especially in a cat who's not eating.

Checked Ketones this am....negative

Have a 1:45 appt for bloodwork.
Is there anything specific that would cause a cat this close to remission just tank all of a sudden??
You would think his body would be thanking us right about now.

Hi Laurie,

I'm kind of new on here, so unfortunately can't give advice, but I am sending "get-better" vibes to Pixie. I hope you get this figured out! cat_pet_icon

Sending good vetty vines for Pixie's checkup. I hope getting rid of the hairball will have taken care of matters, but the pancreatitis test is a good idea. It usually isn't part of the regular blood work sot you should ask about it specifically. I think the pumpkin may need to be a permanent supplement.
