Yeah!!! Nice surf for China today so far anyway! I was really concerned that bringing Mom's cat home would cause some stress and affect her numbers but so far, things seem to be good. Of course Miss Kitty is alone in a spare bedroom, so not interacting with the 3 I have, but they know she's there. She was going crazy home alone with only occasional visits to feed, so when Mom had to go to the neurologist on Monday, we stopped by her house to get her. She refused to come out from under the bed for me every time I went to try to get her, so hoped she'd come out for mom. She still didn't come out, but with both of us on the floor trying to get her, she did move close enough for mom to scruff her and then I helped pull her out. She's so starved for attention! I wish I could let her out among everyone else, but she's not going to stay here forever (that's the plan anyway) and at this point, it's not worth the trouble it would cause to try to introduce another adult cat into my mix.
She was also a kitten of an FIV mom that I had in foster care. Mom and Dad took her knowing that, and knowing it'd be best for her to be in a single cat household. The rescue group I was fostering for had decided that the kittens would (regrettably) have to be euthanized because they would never be able to guarantee their health or find homes for possible FIV+ kitties, but it broke my heart to consider that, so I asked for time. I called the vet school in Columbia, MO and asked if they knew anyone who might want a "free" Maine Coon kitten, and be willing to take them knowing the possibilities of FIV. The man I talked to said that he seriously doubted it because they had kittens offered all the time but he would ask. I understood that, but told him I'd appreciate it if he'd at least ask around. Three days later, he called with the BEST news ever!! The other 4 kittens all had homes with vet students that would do all the testing (and possible treatment) they could need and would love to have them! That weekend, I took the lucky 4 there and met the students that would become their furever mommy's
I had asked for a miracle, and I'd gotten one!
Sorry for going off topic, but I just love that story and wanted to share it!
Hope all your kitties are doing well today, and for those that aren't, I'm sending lots of vines to each of you!
