Hey everyone. Prior to today, Jupiter was doing incredible. Good appy and more playful then hes been in a long time.

Today has been a really rough day for Jupiter and I would really appreciate any thoughts, vines, and prayers for him. My poor baby boy Jupe has been through so much lately.

Here is what happened today... (for those of you not on facebook).... I am going to copy/paste the updates I posted earlier on FB (sorry for being lazy about it..... it has been a long day)

2:22pm "Jupiter vomited a whole bunch and was straining to go to the lb and he was crying and yelping. We took him in to emergency vet and they said he is very constipated. They gave him an enema and we are waiting to see if he's able to go. (If not they would need to sedate him to extract it). They are doing xrays because they want to make sure nothing else is wrong that is making him so sick (like cancer spreading or any blockages).

When he had colon problems in the past (which he had surgery for a few years ago and it seemed to fix everything and he stopped getting constipated) he never vomited when he was constipated before.."

3:06pm "they said he went some but still not enough, i think they are doing a second enema"

3:28pm " they just started some subq fluids as well. they said did have some bowel movement but still not enough yet. i think they plan on doing another xray to make sure he gets all stool out"

5:14pm "We are finally home!!! I will post an update in a little bit. Gotta get Jupe cleaned up (hes really smelly) and we have to clean up all the vomit from earlier today that is all over the carpet. Didnt get a chance to clean the carpets before we left - just wanted to get Jupe to a vet ASAP. Glad we took him though because had it been any worse at all, they would have needed to sedate him to extract the stool. 2 enemas and also a water enema got him cleaned out. We got the xrays to take with us to the oncologist when Jupe goes for next chemo treatment."

5:31pm "hes vomiting everywhere again"

5:35pm "waiting for a call back from the vet"

5:45pm "okay talked to vet...the plan is....gonna wait a while and then try a piece of pill pocket.....and iif he doesnt vomit that i will give him cerenia which should help with nausea......then wait a while and if he doesnt vomit he can eat but if he vomits no more food tonight."

I dont really understand why he is still vomiting and stuff... The last time he vomited was a few hours ago and he vomited several times and also had some liquidlike poo on the carpet.

The vet wants us to give him 1/8 tsp of Miralax once a day for the next few days. She also wants us to try to increase his fluid intake.

Today has been a long and rough day for my sweet baby boy. Any thoughts, prayers, or vines would be so appreciated. I will be calling his oncologist on Monday to see if we should delay his chemo treatment.... or if he is feeling better by then, if we should have the treatment done.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - vet today - constipation & vomiting

Poor Jupiter..and you too Jamie!

It's been such a struggle for you both, and all we can do is let you know we're here for you and will send as much positive energy, prayers and feel good vines as possible.

Hope his tummy feels better soon. The Miralax should help with the constipation, and if you can push water, that'll help too.

Jupiter sure is a fighter! He takes after his beans, Dane and Jamie!!

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - vet today - constipation & vomiting

Lots of healing vines for Jupe tonight. We are thinking positively that his tummy will feel better tonight and that tomorrow he will be feeling good again.

Hugs, scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Jamie and Jupe :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

I'm really glad you got him into the vet. I don't know why he's vomiting either except I have heard that giving them enemas will make them vomit. I think the cerenia is a good idea; wish she had given you an injectable of it just in case he's not keeping anything down.

Many healing vines and prayers.

And....a friend of mine did this website on Feline Constipation. It's excellent and she knows more about constipation in cats than anyone I know.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - vet today - constipation & vomiting

Prayers coming from here, too....please feel better sweet little Jupiter!

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - vet today - constipation & vomiting

Hi Jamie,
I am sorry to hear that both you and Jupiter had a rough day.
Sending tons of healing vines to Jupiter.
I really hope he feels better soon.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - vet today - constipation & vomiting

what a traumatic day! i hope he's doing better now - that sounds so worrisome. i was thinking the same thing as marje - cerenia can be injected and often vets will do that first while you're at the appt, then send home pills with you. if you can't get the pills down i'd be tempted to ask the vet for a syringe with the cerenia that you could give at home.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - vet today - constipation & vomiting

sending tons of healing vines to Jupiter!
hang in there little guy!

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - vet today - constipation & vomiting

I hope Jupiter is feeling better now.
Sending vines for better stool movement, and no more vomiting.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - vet today - constipation & vomiting

Sending prayers for Jupiter and hugs to you Jamie. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: I hope Jupiter is doing better this morning.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - vet today - constipation & vomiting

Hi Jamie, I will also be praying for Jupiter for whatever is causing the vomiting and for easier bowel movements.

Question

:?: :?: :?: he keeps scooting his butt across the floor.... and now it looks like there is a sore on his butt... ugh, i dont know what to do.... is this something i should be worried about? :?: :?: :?:

he was sitting back in the hallway by the LB room.... and I went back and said its okay buddy go ahead to your box... he started meowing and crying and walked to the box and just went a little tiny bit of liquidypoo...then came out of box and was scooting his butt across the floor

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - ???Question???

I did try wiping him with baby wipes a few times today but even after that he is still scooting his butt across the floor.

He keeps going back to LB and meowing and crying... he tries to go poo and only a few drops of really liquidy poo comes out...

I feel soooo bad, I hate seeing him like this.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - ???Question???

Was he able to eat today Jamie?

Does it take a little while for the miralax to kick in?

We will pray for Jupiter that he is able to go to the bathroom and be more comfortable.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - ???Question???

I didnt give him any miralax yet since his poo is sooooo liquidy.....not sure if i should give it or not...

he ate a little bit last night...i dont think he ate anything today. plate of his normal food out for free feeding. i offered him some baby food but he didnt want any...

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - ???Question???

Jamie --

I hate to say this but if Jupe is in distress, he may need to go back to the vet. He could be impacted and if so, you don't want to give Miralax.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - ???Question???

So sorry to hear Jupiter is having such a rough time with his glands and the constipation. I hope this clears up quick for him
Sending healing vines to you both Jamie & Jupiter

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - ???Question???

The vet said hes empty. They took an xray to make sure. They said the 2 enemas and the water enema cleaned him out....

He is crying and meowing everytime he goes back to the LB and he tries to go and just a few liquidy drops come out... I am just not sure what to do...

Could he be impacted so shortly after those enemas yesterday?

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - ???Question???

Jamie, did they express his anal glands while he was there?

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - ???Question???

I am not really sure.... what has me the most worried is that he is crying and meowing when he goes back to the LB...

I just called the vets office and they will have an oncall vet call me back in a few minutes.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - ???Question???

If his glands are full, it can be extremely uncomfortable and painful. (This can also be a cause of constipation) A cat will feel like they still need to go to the litter, but it is not something they can "push out" to relieve. They need to be expressed (cleaned out) manually. Good luck with the vet.

edit: This is often why you see them scooting.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - ???Question???

Kim has a good point. (You would have thought the vet would have checked on that.) At the very least, I'd give the vet a call.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - ???Question???

I just talked to Jupiter's regular vet on the phone (not the one who saw him yesterday as she was the oncall vet from the same practice)... he said we should put some neosporin on his butt. He said hes probably trying to go because hes probably very sore from the enemas and everything yesterday. He said that its probably painful still and his intestines will be probably be inflamed for another day or two causing discomfort - and making him feel like hes got to go to the LB.

He said if we have some Bupe left, that we can give him a single dose of that and that should help with the discomfort.

He said he doesnt want us to give too much Bupe because Bupe could also contribute to more constipation but said a single dose wont hurt.

I also mentioned that he isnt eating anything which the vet said is probably due to him not feeling well.

I am supposed to call back tomorrow morning if he is still having some problems and we will take things step by step that way.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - ???Question???

I'm glad they got back to you so fast. Jupiter is very lucky to have you!

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

I hope the bupe helps your poor little guy feel better. Our prayers continue!!

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

Continuing to send prayers for you and Jupiter. I hope the bupe helps.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

Jamie, I hope the Neosporin and the bupe helps. We pray for a quick recovery for Jupiter and a more comfortable day.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

Jamie, so sorry to hear Jupe is not feeling good again  Poor thing, he has been thru so much. And you and Dane also.
I'm glad you got to talk to your vet and I hope Jupe gets feeling better real soon :YMHUG:

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

Hes kind of "leaking" some liquidy poo. When he lays there after a while I will smell it then wipe him and put something clean under him.

Will baby wipes irritate him or is it okay to keep using them? Ive started warming them up in the microwave for a few seconds before wiping him.... he seems to mind it a lot less that way.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

Do you have the ones that are fragrance free and unscented. maybe a warm paper towel.

Some baby wipes are for sensitive skin with no alcohol or fragrance. I know alcohol can irriate the skin.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

Can you please ask the vet if the anal glands were expressed or not?
My Shadoe did not have any constipation issues but she did need to have hers expressed twice!
She pranced around like an indignant pony afterward, for the rest of the day, but then she was fine.

My Ollie has megacolon, so he does have the liquipoo just prior to a substantial output, and when he is quite blocked, he has on occasion vomited a bit. On his output day, he does alot of attempts, going from box to box and also taking trips to the garden.

If they have done an Xray after his enemas and he shows all clean, then I think you want the glands checked.

Once everything's resolved, you may want to start the miralax daily, just to keep things 'moving' because you don't want to get into a megacolon issue later on.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

I'd think the baby wipes would be ok...they're designed to be used on babies who can have diaper rash, so there shouldn't be anything in them that would burn or irritate (but you might want to check the ingredients)

What might be going on with the "leaking" is peristalsis. The intestines use paristaltic action to move the stool along. Muscles contract in "waves" to keep everything going in the right direction. With the enemas and all that he had, I'm sure that his intestines are irritated and may be contracting more than usual and since the sphincter muscle is probably irritated too, it's not able to "hold" anything back

No matter what's causing it, I hope Jupiter feels better soon. Poor guy has to feel miserable.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

The vet doesnt think its the anal glands... and I do not either... mainly because I think the reason he is scooting his butt across the floor... is because hes leaking out liquidy poo from the enemas and stuff... i think hes scooting his butt to get it clean after he 'leaks'

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

I know dogs do that when they are messy.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

If you're concerned about the baby wipes, you can always use a soft cloth with warm water. I'm really glad you spoke with your vet.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

Jamie, I know you were told to use Neosporin. I don't know if that stings, but the skin around his butt is going to be really sore and the liquipoo will sting.

Plain Vaseline, will soothe it too...after cleaning with the baby wipe.
If you think the wipe has something irritating on it....just rinse it with warm water before using.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

Sending vines for Jupe! Poor thing, I bet it is really sore after 3 enemas!

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

Jupiter finally ate a few bites!!! Not much but a few bites is better then nothing. Calling oncologist tomorrow and going to tell them whats going on. I think we are going to reschedule the chemo treatment til next monday. I just dont know if he will be ready for chemo this wednesday and I think right now he needs to rest, feel better, and eat

Thank you all so much for the visits, vines and prayers

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

I am so glad that he ate a little something. He is on his way. It sounds prudent to let Jupiter recover
and eat first.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

Yeah Jupe!! Come on boy, eat some more of your fuds!!

I think that's a good idea to postpone, Jamie. He needs to be as strong as possible before making him feel icky again, but hopefully the next chemo won't be as hard on him.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

Ugh! Poor Jupe must be feeling pretty cruddy. I hope he's starting to turn the corner and is on his way back to good health. Hang in there, Jamie! You do so much for Jupe and he knows it.

Re: 10/26 Jupiter - constipation & vomiting - talked to vet

Hi Jamie,
I hope Jupe is feeling better today. Rusty "scoots" when his anal glands need expressing. It would be a good thing to have them checked even though the vet is doubtful that they are the cause of Jupe's discomfort. I agree that a soft, moist cloth would be less irritating than something with alchohol in it. Then, perhaps try the old standby: A&D ointment. Just a little bit. It is soothing, doesn't contain anything harmful, and has been used for over 60 years for things like chafing, diaper rash, etc.

Sending lots of healing vines and prayers for Jupe to feel better today,

Ella & Rusty

10/28 CHEMO RESCHEDULED

i talked to a tech and they said jupiters oncologist agrees that it would be best to give him a few more days to get back to feeling better before we do the next chemo treatment so we rescheduled chemo from this wednesday until next monday instead. bloodwork is rescheduled for 9:45am this friday. so glad the scheduling went easy this time and all worked out well.

she said if hes still not feeling good in a few days to call back and let her know...she said its best to schedule it now though before the schedule gets too full.....but if hes still not feeling great we would reschedule again

they said they want to make sure hes feeling pretty good before treatment so that we dont think hes feeling bad due to a treatment if its not the treatment causing him not to feel well.....and they said its important that hes eating well too

he seems to be feeling a slight bit better then yesterday but hes still not feeling well. continued positive thoughts, vines, and prayers would be greatly appreciated. i just hate seeing my sweet baby jupe like this

next time I post I will start a new condo to update how jupiter is feeling. thank you all for visits and vines, and thoughts and prayers
