Good morning Lantus Land...well, maybe "good afternoon" is more like it.
Was happy to see China's AMPS number considering all the wonky numbers we've been getting lately, but because she was starting lower, was planning on getting a +2 for sure to see if she was going to have another one of her fast drop days.....then the phone rang. Having my phone ring before 6:30 in the morning can only be one thing...the Assisted Living center where Mom's staying. I answered it and was scared of what I was going to hear, especially since the nurse on the other end sounded a little like she was trying to find "the right words". When she finally did spit it out, she told me that Mom was complaining of a lot of pain in her right leg from the knee down and couldn't weight bear on it and would I take her to the ER (which I did..more about that later). Now Mom doesn't complain about pain unless it's REALLY bad, so I knew she had to be having a lot of it. They were concerned that maybe she had a blood clot (as I was)
Got her out to the car and over to the hospital, and the only thing they did was push around her kneecap and take an X-ray and then the PA comes back and says "Maybe you got it tangled in the sheets or slept on it wrong. Or maybe it's a flare up of arthritis. Take a pain pill if you need it and come back if it gets worse"
Now knowing my mother (and the fact she doesn't complain), I wasn't real happy with his "diagnosis"..she was FINE last night, this morning she can't walk. Arthritis "flare ups" don't happen overnight, and don't happen in just one joint. I don't know HOW anyone would twist their knee so badly that it swelled and caused this kind of pain from "getting tangled up in the sheets" or sleeping on it wrong.
Anyway...by the time we'd wasted the morning at the ER, it was 11am before I got home, and while we were gone, I kept thinking of China. As soon as I walked in the door, I was SO happy to see her and got a +5 in, so thankfully, China was a good kitty again for me when my life responsibilities kept me from being home with her.
Hope everyone is having a pleasant Sunday and I think China and I are going to try to take a nap later on...I know I need one!!
