Good Morning!

Unfortunately, I gave a fur shot this morning. I am not sure how much she got but I could definitely smell the insulin. : (
However, before I left for work and gave her +2 bs reading her level had dropped from her AMPS number so she must have gotten some.
She played a little with me last night.

And just a side note that might be interesting I had a little extra blood this am so I did a second test with my Freestyle Meter so I could compare the numbers with the Relion meter. (I use the Freestyle for myself) and it was a big difference. Whereas the Relion gave me 314 the Freestyle gave me 239. And I know from personal bs readings that the numbers can be +/- 20 points but this is a big difference!!
Hope everyone has a good day!

That is a huge difference. It's possible that the two meters use a different method of measuring BG. However, i wouldn't expect that kind of variability.

I've always used a Contour meter. I did buy an Arkray (the parent company of Relion) meter and found there was a large difference between the readings on the two meters. I stuck with the Contour which gave me lower readings. I figured that I'd rather know if numbers were too low than too high.

Drat that fur shot! Hope her numbers don't get too crazy. All you can do is wait and try again. :YMSIGH:

Nice drop there for +2. it does look like some insulin got in. Sometime when you are adjusting the dose a drop gets on the outside of the barrel. I always put a tiny square of paper towel over the needle while dialing in the dose. It absorbs the excess and then i just slip it off before the shot.

we used the freestyle light when punkin was first diagnosed. i loved it. nice little meter. unfortunately, what we discovered through people here on the forum, the Freestyle measures differently than other glucometers resulting in a distinctive cat spreadsheet. We switched over in 2011, i believe. Wendy/Neko started with one too. The spreadsheets almost never showed pink numbers (300+) or anything higher. Basically you got a yellow/blue spreadsheet. it looked pretty. :-D

what we found through a member survey was that the other glucometers were more accurate for the cats.

when punkin died i gave almost all of his supplies to DCIN (Diabetic Cats in Need) but kept the Freestyle to do occasional checks for DH and me. they seem fine for people.
