Good morning,

Yesterdays' condo

11/13 AMPS=137; +2=171; +8.5=166
11/13 PMPS=180; +2=146; +4=146

11/14 AMPS=139; +2=157; +9.75=187
11/14 PMPS=209; +2=160

Lucy is feeling OK, and her appetite was fine in the beginning but decreased.
I've been noticing something.
Since we started bupe, she starts off eating happy.
And about 2/3 into her first portion of meal, she is not so interested any more.
And by the 2nd and 3rd meals, she turns her nose away from her usual Wellness Turkey, so I have been giving her Wellness Turkey & Salmon for the 2nd and 3rd portions of the meal.
At first, I thought this had something to do with bupe schedule, and that's why I've buped her every 8 hours since yesterday, to make sure that the effect stays strong.
But she was the same this morning.
It's almost like eating makes her feel bad - I'm not sure what kind of "bad" though... pain? nausea?
I haven't changed her food - same usual Wellness stuff.

:?: Maybe when some food is in, her pancreas starts trying to do it's job, and makes the pain from pancreatitis worse?
Does this make sense?
If so, this will be an indication for me on when to adjust the bupe dose/schedule.
I am going to do 0.2cc every 8 hours today again. :?:

I hope everyone's having a nice day.

Re: 11/14 Lucy AMPS=139

I don't have any advice on the appy issues, but I hope they clear up. Poor Lucy. No good when food looks unappetizing. You might want to put a few ?? in your header to catch some expert eyes. Nice blue start for the day! Hope you see green later on.

Re: 11/14 Lucy AMPS=139

Hi guys .. No advice from me .. Poor kitty .. Poor bean .. it's no fun when our babies aren't feeling their best .. we so wish we could take their pain ..

Re: 11/14 Lucy AMPS=139

Thank you, Tara.
I took your advice and put a "?" on the subject line.....

Re: 11/14 Lucy AMPS=139

Is she taking anything for nausea too? What you say makes sense...maybe the food is bothering her in some way. At least she is starting off happy, though. I sooooooo wish they could talk. Keep working on feeling better, Miss Lucy!

Re: 11/14 Lucy AMPS=139

So sorry Lucy is not feeling her best.
I hope you will be able to figure it out and she gets feeling better real soon :YMHUG:
Have a good day Mariko.

Re: 11/14 Lucy AMPS=139

I'm not giving her cerenia yet.
She is generally happy and comfortable with bupe help.
It's just her appetite becomes unhappy little after I get some food in her.

Re: 11/14 Lucy AMPS=139

your logic makes sense, mariko. i wonder if it's nausea, though, after she's eaten a little. i think i would try the cerenia and see if that changes things. one dose and 12 hrs would probably tell you if it's nausea, relieved by the cerenia.

nausea can be part of pancreatitis, so treating her as though she might feel nauseous when she stops eating seems very reasonable to me.

Re: 11/14 Lucy AMPS=139;+2=157

Thank you, Julie.
I will try Cerenia if she stops eating or if her appetite decreases any further.
She just isn't acting like she does when she is nauseated - but bupe may be making her act differently.
Right now, she's eating, just needs a lot more encouragements for the 2nd & 3rd servings.....

I just wanted to know if I can use this behavior as an indication, to guess if her pancreatitis is still in full force or it's starting to heal, so I can start adjusting the bupe schedule towards every 12 hours.
In the past, she got over pancreatitis flare in 3 days or so.

Re: 11/14 Lucy AMPS=139;+2=157

I'm sorry Lucy's appy is still not the best. I hope she starts feeling better soon and her appy improves.

Re: 11/14 Lucy AMPS=139;+2=157

I notice that when J.D. has a flare up of pancreatitis that he eats his first meal and then goes and lays in his bed like he hurts, so I also thought that the food hurt his tummy.

Re: 11/14 Lucy AMPS=139;+2=157;+9.75=187

Thanks, Dyana.
After reading that J.D. acts the same, I'm more convinced that food hurts her tummy....
I think I'll try to split her meal in more smaller portion whenever I can until this episode is over and see if it helps....

Re: 11/14 Lucy AMPS=139;+2=157;+9.75=187

Hi Mariko,

You are so good at figuring things out :thumbup And it all makes sense!

Sending vines that Miss Lucy gets over this bout of P'titis quickly.

Re: 11/14 Lucy PMPS=209

Well I got a yellow PMPS.... but she's feeling fine.
I thought she had gotten over that bounce after the Monday dive fairly quickly, but I guess her liver is still deciding....
Or it could be a failed reduction.....

I only fed her a little more than 1/2 of her usual 1st dinner, which is a little more than 1/4 of her whole dinner portion, and she finished happily (finger-feeding).
Hopefully the smaller portion is easier on her pancreas, and she'll eat the remaining happily too.
I'll find out in an hour......

I wish I could do this all the time... giving her smaller portions through out the day, but I can only be consistent to split into 3 ways (PS, +1 & +2) for the work day AM.

Re: 11/14 Lucy PMPS=209

Mariko, would an automatic feeder help you split more meals while you're at work? I haven't used mine yet, but I know alot of members here swear by them.

You're amazing for observing Lucy & deciphering what's happening for her. I hope the Cerenia helps and Lucy's numbers come back down soon for you.

Re: 11/14 Lucy PMPS=209;+2=160

She ate 2nd & 3rd dinner pretty well, at least better than yesterday or this morning.
She didn't turn her nose away and I didn't have to switch to Wellness Turkey&Salmon.
So no Cerenia just yet....

It's either the smaller portion is helping or she's getting over this flare, or combination of both.
If the smaller portion is helping, it is amazing the different just a table spoon or so less can make....

Suzanne - Unfortunately, auto-feeder would not work for Lucy, although I own two.
Beside food-loving Ginger, I can't really trust Lucy to eat on her own, even when she is not having a pacreatitis flare.
Unless there is an auto-"finger"-feeder that can pick out veggie bits from Wellness.

Thank you all for your visit and kind words.
They are very encouraging.
