Shadow is staying low without juice for now. I cannot be here today so no shot. We'll see where he's at in 12 hours. I was not thinking about a trial until maybe Thanksgiving but maybe the little guy has his own ideas.

Re: 11.18.13 Shadow AMBG 65

Stephen:

A few of us have taken a look at Shadow's SS and, barring any high numbers tonight, we think he's ready for an OTJ Trial!!! So...here are the instructions and you can start the official trial on the next green pre shot:

  • Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).

  • If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!

  • If all goes well, after 14 days, we have a party!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Good luck with the trial. And...we also ask that when you post the daily condo, in the subject line it's good to keep track of the trial day. An example would be: "11/19 Shadow AMBG 65 OTJ Trial Day 1"

Shadow's cruisin' along right now. If his AM preshot is in the same range I will give an OTJ trial a whirl. He more or less started it on his own yesterday. He's had a pattern like this before just before I left for a couple of days and fed him the Hill's Prescription Diet DM dry food, for diabetic cats?, while I was gone. His BG level took off but came right back down with small, small, amounts of insulin and a diet of LC wet food mostly with small amounts of YoungAgain Zero Carb dry food from an automatic feeder between pre-shots when I can't be here and also in the middle of the night. When it comes to any food it is evident that I have to feed Shadow small amounts as he will just gobble up almost any amount I feed him right then and there, especially if its something different than what he's been eating recently. When I fed him the DM dry out of the feeder I made the mistake of trying to be too easy on the sitter and set the feeder for two feedings a day with 1/3 of cup at each feeding. I am sure he wolfed it down. That and the DM's not that low carb content caused a temporary setback BG wise. That's not happening again.

woo-hooooo! shadow's looking mighty fine!!! good to see marje gave you libby's OTJ instructions.
GOOD LUCK with the trial!

looking fantastic! just give that evil dry food away! you won't have to worry about shadow going too low when there's no insulin involved. congrats steve!
