Good morning LL! Happy Catterday!

Clyde had a nice green 81 this morning after posting a nice green 72 last night. I don't remember testing or feeding them at 6am, but according to the time on the last test on the BG monitor and the empty can of cat food on the kitchen counter, I must have. I think I need a little more sleep, either that or he's learned how to test and feed himself.

Speaking of testing, I checked this morning and discovered I'm starting to run low on test strips. Can someone give me an idea of how frequently I should be testing Clyde after the OTJ trial so I can stock up on the appropriate number of strips? I don't want to get a box of 100 strips if they will expire before I'll end up using them now, at the same time I don't want to go with a box of 20 if it means I have to run to walmart every week.

Wow Clyde! Just no messing around with you getting to that finish line  And hey, while I have your ear, would you please teach Twice as to how you learned to feed and test yourself? That would sure be nice on the weekends so mama can SLEEP IN!

Will: I am not sure about how often to test, etc. but if you creep some of the other OTJ's ss's you might be able to get a better idea. Just go back to where they went OTJ at the beginning and that should be a good indication. I'm guessing that at the start you would want to check once a day??? Good luck and great job!

Too funny about the ghost testing and feeding this morning

Not 100% positive about testing after OTJ Trial...but from what I've read it looks like only 1 time per week, but let's wait 2 hear what the experts say ;-)

I think everyone is different with how often they test after their kitty goes OTJ. I think it is just what you are comfortable with. At first it seems people test more frequently, like once a week. I think I remember reading some people test once a month. The most important thing is to keep an eye on how much Clyde pees and drinks and if he acts like anything is off, he doesn't feel good, etc. to test at that time.

Evening folks. Clyde was at 58 tonight.

Clyde is just sitting here in the bed watching the 50th Anniversary of Dr. Who. It's a wibbly wobbly timey wimey thing :)

Gooo, Clyde!! :RAHCAT You are doing great!

When Kitty went OTJ, I was really paranoid about not testing as often. It took a long time before I felt OK not checking her. I checked her BG quite a bit after she was OTJ, but only because she had to be put on a low dose of prednisone for a while, and that's what caused her diabetes in the first place. After that, I only checked a couple of times a week, and then once a week. I check about once or twice a month now. I haven't been updating my spreadsheet.

I'm so excited for you and Clyde! You get your very own OTJ party and video! :thumbup

you want to move to testing about once a week for a couple of months, then to once a month. i think most people keep going with once a month. some people stop testing and don't recheck unless their kitter gets sick and they see symptoms. personally, i'd keep checking once a month forever, probably.

once a cat is diabetic, they are still diabetic, they are simply diet-controlled. for the rest of clyde's life, no dry food, low carb canned only, avoid steroids unless his health depends on it. no sugar in his meds either.

however, for today, we're celebrating day 9! congrats to both of you! you're on the last lap to the OTJ finish line!
