Well ieleiana's dental is tomorrow. No food after 6pm tonight and no water after 6am tomorrow. she has to be there by 830am. Really nervous but I know she will be okay. She doesnt have bad anxiety like Jupiter does... but doesnt like strangers either. None of my furbabies have ever had dentals before so this is a first. Does anyone have any suggestions on questions I should ask the vet? Or anything I should expect when shes home? Things I can do to make this easier for her?

I wanted to also give you all a quick Jupe update. His appy was very poor yesterday..... I can tell hes still not feeling too great...but he must be feeling atleast a tad bit better today cause he was playing with his little sister.. Didnt last too long though... and LOL jupe is so lazy! Instead of walking he used his front claws to drag himself across the floor!!! Silly baby boy!

Sending vines and prayers to all those in need <3

Re: 12/17 Civie Ieleiana Dental tomorrow & Jupe update

After dental they can be pretty dopey and agitated so you may see strange behavior - I've had cats come home, head straight for the litterbox, and lie down in it. You'll need to watch her for a while to make sure she doesn't hurt herself trying to jump, etc. The vet should give you ABs if necessary, info on follow up painkiller, etc. I assume you shouldn't give Bupe in the morning since she'll be getting anesthesia. Sometimes they're ravenous afterwards, so give just a little food at a time. Sometimes they don't want food that night and have to be coaxed to eat for as long as a few days. A lot depends on whether she has extractions and how many.

My Abys have to have dentals pretty much every year. My male, Harvey, takes it all in stride. They say to offer only water the first day, but he refuses to read the memo and wants sustenance. I give him chicken baby food, and he inhales every drop (great if you have to give liquid meds - I just put it in the baby food and they never notice, especially that first day). I usually just give him about a third of the jar to start, then after 20 minutes or so, if he hasn't thrown up, I give him the rest. Of course, ECID, so here's hoping yours takes it like a trooper!

12/18 JUPE AND IELEIANA UPDATES

IELEIANA UPDATE:
Just got an update from vet about Ieleiana.

he said with her bloodwork.... it looked good for the most part... however, her kidney values were elevated...

She had 2 teeth pulled, one with a resorptive lesion which was probably causing a lot of pain. She has sutures that will dissolve.

They also said she was very very sensitive to the anesthesia. They said as soon as they gave it to her, she was knocked out. They said she is taking a very long time to wake up. They said I cant pick her up until 5pm-7pm and I have to call later to see how she is waking up to know when I can go there.

She will need a recheck in 7 days. And she is to continue Buprenex for pain for 3-4 days. He said she could be groggy for 24 hours following because of how sensitive she was to the anesthesia

JUPE UPDATE:
Jupiter must be feeling good! Any time I move he follows! Appetite is finally improving too!!!! Glad chemo side effects are already starting to go away!!!

Re: 12/17 Civie Ieleiana Dental tomorrow & Jupe update

Hi Jamie.
I have seen lots of cats and dogs who are sensitive to anesthesia. Don't panic, but they do have a rough time coming out of it...very disoriented (more so than normal), clumsy, some act scared, some act, well...stoned. They keep them extra long for the safety of the pet (contained in kennel is far safer than being free), as well because they do monitor them very closely to ensure all systems are go. She's going to be fine, but they will most likely warn you to keep her away from stairs and not to put her up on a bed, counter, etc.
I just had a couple dentals done, and sutures were involved. Both cats were eating fine that same day (I only fed small amounts though), and by the following day, you couldn't tell either of them had work done or sutures. But I do know lots of kitties have a rougher time with dentals and I know baby foods are a hit, as well as soupy canned kitty food (mixed with water to make for less chewing).

Sending vines to both your babies. Hope Jupe continues to improve in leaps and bounds every day :-D

Ieleiana is going to feel so much better once her mouth heals. She probably will be kind of out of it when you first get her home. Like Kim said, watch her so she doesn't get on something she can fall off of.

I'm so glad Jupiter is feeling better and his appy is improving.

Sending prayers and hugs to you all. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Love the good report on Jupiter!! Sending vines for Leleiana - I had one kitty who was also very sensitive to anesthesia. The vet kept him extra time and he had a hard time settling when we brought him home. Paced most of the night. Kept him in a bedroom with me, and I put the mattress on the floor. He was fine after 48 hours. Hope you feel better too :YMHUG:

Hi Jamie,
We are sending good-recovery vines to Ieleiana tonight. Just give her all the time she needs to "come out" of it. So glad to hear that Jupe is doing well.

Lots of hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty
